theres this game coming out called Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. you go around and kill these bad guys so that your company/ government can succed in this thing that they're doing. your like a spy, you've got night vision, heat vision, invisibility, and of course, some guns and a few knives. there is no blood at all, and if there is, then its not much cause i've seen the screenshots. i want this game really badly. i am 14 now and this game is rated M. my parents said that i could probably not get it bacause of this rating. i am not the kind of person who takes games seriously. i wont go kill someone if i see it happen in a game. i can deferenciate (sp?) between rpg world and the real world. in fact, this game isn't really mature at all, it just requires a mature level of thinking, which i have.

i'd prefer the adults to answer this question but if ur not a parent, u can answer too. i just would like to get a few parent's opinions.

Well I find it should be up to the parants to allow their kid to have a game. And any kid that takes a game seriously and goes and kills someone because of the game is an idiot.

Take that GTA incident for example. Those people we're stupid, and it's stupider that they sued the game company for it, that should not be let to the court.

Ratings though are not a bad thing as they let parants know what kind of game it is, so they don't have to play it to know if there's violence, etc, if they don't want their kid to play it.

Man, if I took UO seriously, I'd be wandering in the bush killing paragon animals and killing dragon spawns and stuff. I'd come home with only 1HP of health left and have to go buy myself a new horse because of it dying.

I think all the ranting about games causing violence is bullcrap. However, the rating system is all that keeps some of these parents in check; I think it's a good thing that your parents are competent enough to know what the rating system is and that they are responsible enough to know what games you're playing.

I'm pretty sure that's what they want you to be........Mature as in mature......or at least of age. Not a whiny xxxxx xxxxx that can't handle small issues on their own. Do we need examples?

Good for your parents.

I can't wait for your mature, good at hard puzzles reply.

just in case, here are those examples thanks to sintekk.

well, i'm a gamer, and i must say.........................................ratings..are there for a reason, and they are there to protect the parents and their children, although, can get any damn game i wish, but, still, i dunno what ur situation is, but your parents are either A: doing it for your own good or B: have no damn reason whatsoever for not letting you get the game, other then they just dont feel like messing/arguing w/ you over it. good luck...i'd buy it/have a friend buy it anyway, and keep it secret=-D

We don't even have a video game machine in the house, so I don't have to worry about buying video games.

It's not necessarily that they think that, it's just that they take ratings seriously. I wasn't allowed to see PG-13 movies until I was around your age, for example. I still watched them, I just saw them behind their backs instead of whining and moaning about it.

That's your problem...you don't know how to deal with mom and dad. When they say no and you whine and complain and make a scene about it, they just get annoyed and refuse further. And as time goes on, they remember saying no, because you made it a big deal. What you need to do is say, "Okay, fine." and walk away, and when your friend's parent let him buy the game, you ask them if you can go over to his house after school. No big deal. Mom doesn't want me to go to Broadripple on a Friday night because she's under the delusioned impression that it's the ghetto? No problem...I get permission to go to a friend's house and we drive over to Broadripple from there. You can do lots of things without their consent, you just have to stop wasting your time whining and start being smart about it. And the less you argue when they tell you you can't have something, the more likely they are to listen to reason in the future.

True doing stuff behind their back is also a solution as long as you know what you're doing.

For examlp when I was a kid my parants did not allow me to play with electricity anymore because a fireman came and said it was unsafe.

So I asked them if I can do it as long as I use insulated wire and they said yes but to be careful.

Life went on, and I tripped a breaker that day. :D

I really must disagree with these suggestions of going behind the parent's backs. How is a parent supposed to trust the child if the child starts proving that he can't be trusted?

Dig it! I went to college for a few years in central Indiana. Good times. Vincennes and Ball State. ;)
