Does anyone send real letters anymore? I'm not talking about a Christmas or birthday card. I mean a letter where you write to a loved one or a relative or a complete stranger and tell them things. Also, do you open your junk mail, I mean bulk business mail, or do you just throw it.

I've sent a real letter once in my lifetime: to my kindergarten teacher (it was a homework assignment).Bookworm wrote: Does anyone send real letters anymore? As for junk mail, I don't open any real bulk mail I get, I keep it all in a huge black garbage bag.

I sent a letter like a week ago... it was part of an assignment for my business class. It was an inquiry letter to Cray Computer Inc. I do send stuff in the mail but it's usually just a check or something like that, rarely a letter.
As for junkmail as far as I know my mom goes through it fast (flyers etc) and then it goes in the recycling bin. But as for "your credit card has been approved" or "we will finance your $250,000 home for free" it usually goes straight to the bin without opening.

So from what I can see, people are assigned the writing of letters, but they never actually do it in real life. Makes great educational sense.

Let's see; my grandmother has sent me a letter or two, and I have once or twice sent a letter when I was younger... but I really never send a letter, I have nothing worth sending. I'd rather email it or phone it, a letter would be so wasteful for my means. I do send letters at my office though. As for junk mail, usually throw it away because I've already seen it. If it catches my interest, I may look at it before tossing it.

I send letters!
I used to write tons of letters, but not so much anymore since the interweb and email have gotten so big.
But before, like when I was in high school and would go on field trips, etc, and meet new people, I'd usually keep in touch with a few through letters.
Coincidentally enough, I just sent a letter out to someone this morning!!

I'm not adopted and I'm not an Indian.
It's just a coincidence that I have
a love of gambling and booze
and a knack for catching syphilis.

Oh, but junk mail, no. Goes straight to the trash/shredder.

I just thought of something cool. I wonder how much MW/hour we could produce if we burned all the junkmail in the world to power an electric generator at 90% efficiency.
