I have a K8T Neo-FIR motherboard (for socket 939 processers), and i am having two problems.

First i have a video card that won't play video games, it will play far cry, but it won't play diablo II (a game from 2001), or the sims 2. My video card is an Nvidia Geforce FX5200 with 256 MB ram and 8x agp. It will however run windows just fine. This might be a problem with the video card because i have already had to send on back to the seller because of it being defective, I just think the chances of having two junkers delivered to me, should be pretty low.

second, the speakers won't work!. The MOBO has the sound card built in (7.1 surround sound built in) but the computer acts as if it doesn't have a sound card. I have flashed the bios and downloaded all the drivers from the automatic update program MSI distributed with the MOBO but still nothing.

Well, not playing certain pieces of software is probably not faulty hardware.

Hmmm, the 5200 GPU is listed on the Sims 2 system reqs.... It could just be that the FX5200 is a junker GPU altogether. Go midlevel. I've known people who tried the 5200 and the low-end ATIs and couldn't play games but were fine once they upped to something respectable for game-playing.

You're using the latest drivers for your video card and the latest version of DirectX, yes?

For the sound issue, have you made sure that onboard audio is enabled in the BIOS? If you go into the device manager does the audio adapter show up? Is there a question mark by anything? Do you have a multimedia card like a TV-tuner installed?

the audio adapter doesn't show up and in the bios there are two options: disables and auto (it's on auto)

but even an awful GPU should be able to run DiabloII (released in 2001) it's a pretty simple game

(sound) make sure your speakers are plugged into the correct jack. It's probably green.

When you say that it won't play the game, what do you mean? It's slow and choppy or it dosen't run the game at all? Blank screen?

the game will load and play for a few minutes at normal speed but the screen is boggled, the backgrounds flash on and off constantly. After somewhere between 2-30 mins of playing the game will crash.

absolutely no sound is emitted, the speakers work fine and are plugged into the correct jack, like i said the computer acts as if it had no sound card.
