For those who don't know we had a break in, a video card and HDD were stolen, they were in a location not obvious to a random robber, since a random robber would of took stuff before even getting to that point of the house. So I suspected one of my "friends" who already has a criminal record to begin with, and he was the only person who would know what was in that box, and where it is, because it was not really hidden, just not noticeable compared to other things in the house of value.

So after a few weeks of investigation and what not, yesterday a cop interviewed him and he indirectly admitted to the crime so now he's officially guilty and willing to pay for damages, somewhat. Only thing is that they can't bring him to court and sentence him due to lack of proof, but he does have to pay for the damages, and we can charge him. So it's up to us to decide now and we'll do that once my parents get home. I talked with him and he's basically saying it's not him, but that he's willing to pay and the way he's talking is if he did do it, he just does not want to say so.

So the case is cracked, well officially once I get my cash. And I ain't dealing with him anymore!

Any updates on the case? And I hope the people here will be the first to know if this terrible crime perpetrated against you causes you to assume a superhero secret identity and start inventing little gadgets in your squirrelcave in order to fight (POW, KABAAM) injustice.

Actually my dad had a talk with the guy and suposely he'll do payments. (he's on welfare etc... - this is true not made up lies) but so far no payment... but the cop also wants me to keep him updated on this.

He should have it all paid by march break but if things don't progress I will make sure the cop is aware and more serious measures will be taken.

What sucks is there's no solid evidence, everyone knows it's him, but just knowing does not pass in court, unfortunatly. So if we do bring him to court we have a chance of actually loosing and we'd look pretty stupid.

Best bet is social engeneering, and recordings of those events. But right now I'm sticking with the payments and meanwhile thinking of other plans if he does not do the payments.

Well if I was in your situation.......I'd probably beat him with a ball bat until I felt better. I'd make sure it was dark so he couldn't identify you. That way he can't prove it was you. Then you could indirectly admit that you nearly beat him to death and say that you are indirectly sorry. case closed.

That's too soft, I rather the evil legal way. If he does not do the payments, I plant a listen device in his house record EVERYTHING, listen for any suspicious notes such as "I think they know it's me" or "tomorow I'll try to go steal again" then secretly take this data and send it to the cop and the rest is fields of roses from there.

Actually given he only lives less then a km from me I'm sure some kind of wireless device with a strong enough transmitter could be implimented. The hardest part is putting it in his house, but I can just give him a hard drive and the device would be inside.

Oh the posibilities.

Yea to bad you won't be able to use any of that in court. Illegal. At least in this country.

That's why, after you club him, you put him in a plastic bag full of cement bricks and toss him over Brooklyn Bridge... that'll show him!

Yeah a bit seviere, think of the pollution that would do, especially because plastic is not biodigradable. But if I use strong paper, or maybe a cardboard box, it would not be so bad.

Well, a cardboard box wouldn't do the trick, they'd get out easily... unless you surround the whole box in duct tape after you stick him in. That'll make it stick!

Do they take anonymous blood donations? I don't think their's any non-incriminating way you can give his blood to the bank.

The perfect solution.

We need to keep efficiency in mind too though, since if all this, including gas to get to the bridge, costs more then what was stolen, then it won't be worth it.

I know you guys are joking, but if something were to happen to this guy, I don't think the police would consider your jokes to be that funny. In fact the guy might just stage his own kidnapping and leave some duct tape and a bag of lime on his bed.
