A new vulnerability has been announced in Internet Explorer, also affecting XP SP2, which can very easily be exploited by a malicious web site to completely spoof the address bar. The vulnerability is very similar to another vulnerability disclosed just about a year ago called the '%00' vulnerability, which also was widely exploited by phishers. A demonstration is also available.

The quick way to fix this would be to get Firefox, you losers :P

While I think switching to an alternative browser is good advice, users must still remain cautious regardless of what browser they are using. Web browsers are complex programs, and flaws must be expected. As a matter of fact, Secunia says both Opera and Firefox have unpatched spoofing vulnerabilities. :)

Indeed, Tak, the voice of reason is correct. And if 80% of the population used Opera or Firefox, you can bet it would be exploited to it's fullest, as with IE.
