Below are four (4) questions … . You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time; answer them immediately. OK? Let's find out just how clever you really are.

Ready? Go!

First question:

You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

Answer: If you answered that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

Try not to screw up in the next question.

To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first question.

Second question:

If you overtake the last person, then you are … ?

Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the last person?

You're not very good at this! Are you?

Third question: Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only. Do not use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.

Take 1,000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1,000. Now add 30. Add another 1,000. Now add 20. Now add another 1,000. Now add 10. What is the total?

Scroll down for answer.

Did you get 5,000?

The correct answer is actually 4,100.

Don't believe it? Check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the last question right?

Fourth question:

Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana. 2. Nene. 3. Nini. 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth daughter?

Answer: Nunu?

NO! Of course not. Her name is Mary. Read the question again.

Me too... but I was honest about it, I did them really fast like it said so. Perhaps too fast. :D

I missed two and three. :(

Nothing like starting out a Monday feeling even more stupid than usual.

For the record, I'd like to point out that #2. is a trick question. If you overtake the last person (other than yourself), you would indeed be in second to last place, it's just that it would be impossible to "overtake the last person" since you would tachnically be the last person. I know that's probably apparent to most, but that would be one I would argue about if it were on a test and probably win!

"It was a poorly worded question! It said 'If you overtook the last person' which I understood that as being other than myself. It should have said 'If you overtook the person in last' which would technically be impossible." ^_^

Actually for the last place one I was assuming he was being overlapped, but then that puts him in 1st place no matter what so it does not really work...

Arguing about the wording of the question was my favorite way of increasing my test scores when I was in school.

My teachers were smart enough, for the most part, not to give into that. "Tough" was the favorite response to those who like to complain every test about the wording. :D It's amazing how you compensate by actually learning the material when in this environment.

I had a teacher in school who gave us an abridged version of a book to read for class, and then used a standardized test based on the unabridged version. I got a fairly good grade by inferring the answers from what I already knew, but some of those questions, I just had to argue.

Ha. You can overtake last place! Especially if you're in a race car! If you're in first place, you just pass the last place car and take him a lap down. >.> I win!

I used to overlap my dad all the time in mario kart when we used to play, he'd get so pist. Especially that track where you can make people miss a jump and have to redo a whole section. man that game was fun.
