So if I get this strait some of that stuff has been there for 100 years? How did it get there, since wasn't it in like the 1980's that they sent the first man on the moon, and I'm assuming it was also the first mission. I can't see how technology 100 years ago could enable a space craft to go in the universe. Even cars did not exist

It was 1969 that the first moon landing happened, we have been sending rockets and such for much longer(though I'm not sure of the dates). The moon mission was Apollo 11, meaning there were 10 other manned Apollo missions before it, before that was Gemini, I believe. Russia Mir space station was launch in 1986. (

For some reason I always figured the first man on the moon was also the first man in space. I guess not. Did not figure they had the technology in the old days to send stuff in space, never mind people.

Nah, we weren't about to send someone straight to the moon. Russia actually had the first person in space. The 60's were a crazy time.
