When I was your age my parants where the same.
Just ask them to get a laser mouse so you won't need a mouse pad. If they actually say yes and get one, you will know for sure that you are not poor.

You should use this as an opportunity to find a viable solution to your mouse pad problem... like maybe you could sew one.. out of hemp.

Wouldn't it be sad to have your parents come in and catch you smoking your mousepad?

Hmm… Have you tried something else? Some of my books do a pretty good job of acting as a mouse pad for ball mice.
Now I have an optical mouse (I will never buy a ball mouse again.), so just my desk will do. However, I still use a mouse pad. It has a sometimes annoying but sometimes comfortable armrest, and my mouse skips every once in a while sans mouse pad. I guess that’s because of the wood patterns on my desk. I’m so sick of wooden furniture.

I actually never had issues with patterns, even a white peice of paper works. Heck even transparant plastic.... weird.

The only problem I have with my optical mouse is hair getting trapped near the laser, and causing the pointer to jump across the screen when it tracks the hair.
*steps back, looks up and screams....*
Caaaaaaaaaats!!!!!! [/khan]

haha that happened to me after dusting my computer, a small particle got stuck in the lazer and when I lifted the mouse the cursor moved back and forth really fast and I was like "weird". Then I thought it may be a hair or something and sure enough it was, and the air from my fans was making it move when the mouse was lifted up.
