something tells me that my ATI AIW 7500 would choke and die just trying to load the opening screen, so not buying it anytime soon. That card is the best I have between all five systems and other assorted spare cards in the closet.

By the time I was able to get out a look for it, all the places were sold out or hadn't received it yet.

Red starts loading the game, one hour later the initial menu is available.
several hours later as he is playing the first level that finnnaly loaded, we hear 'Yes, 5 frames per second!"
having playing Wolfenstein 3D on a 286 10 MGHz I can relate to that bit of fantasy above. The game could just move in 'chunks' and the bad guys always seem to stand between the chunks where they were impossible to kill.

Haha, an experience I shared back in the day when my dad wasn't up for investing in better hardware.

Man it only took 25 seconds to complete a frame after some minor tweaking! I'm getting somewhere. Now where was I? Oh yeah, loading a weapon. This should take about an hour.
Yeah I was joking, I actually have a 64MB video card but I still doubt it would run most new games.

Doom 3 will actually run AND look good on a geforce 3 (more powerful than a GeForce 4 MX). It won't be mind-blowingly good looking, but it'll still look better than anything else that computer can run

All sold out everywhere...my cousin bought it, though, and he says it's great to look at. I can't seem to figure out if most people are liking it or not, though. Most people at HardOCP seem to think FarCry is better.
I'm not one to argue, either.
Speaking of graphics cards, my cousin tried to play it on his laptop...and got less than 1 frame per second. @.@ haha...so yeah, Red, go for it! xD

I should try it on an ISA 1Meg video card. 16 color gaming rocks!!!
LOL I would not even have enough power to load the initialisation dialog for the setup program.

I upgraded my dad's video card this weekend to a Radeon 9800 Pro (edit: sale price at Fry's was $199.99) after his old one died and he purchased Doom3 at the same time.
Incredible graphics and perfect dark environments. My huge complaint about it, but this hopefully was an isolated thing just related to that system system - I was forced to to use the excessively awkward A/S/W/D thing or numeric keypad rather than the much more natural arrow keys. Really pissed me off as I never use the left side of the keyboard for movement because it crowds both hands very close to each other. Reminds me of those godd--n right handed desks that I had to fight in school at times that force you to sit at odd angles just to write anything.
