That Gimp thing was not what i thought it would be, i can do most of that with paint. Is there a way to get a good photo editing program without paying 600 bucks!

just what is lacking in the GIMP? Or is the interface that different where it throws you off too much? The only people that really NEED photoshop are the advanced users/high-end graphix folks that really push PS.

one good free option - Serif Software. Specifically PhotoPlus 5.5 which is the slightly older, fully featured program that is the free offering. They should offer an opportunity to upgrade to the latest build (PP 8.0) for $10 or so when you do the INTIAL DOWNLOAD ONLY (at least that was my experience) rather than paying the regular price of $99 later.

My personal feelings are that the GIMP has the best and most intuituve interface hands down and is only lacking some of the high end functions that PS has; namely the things that most people never touch or even know how to use in many cases.

I've never used Gimp but I've heard rave reviews about it from everyone who has and they love it. Maybe give it more time to learn it? I'm sure there's a ton of things it can do that aren't obvious. :)

Photoshop elements 2 isn't over 100 dollars, and it's well worth it :)

I guess i really should give GIMP more time. It gave me a lot of trouble with downloading, and a bunch of commands and dll stuff. If someone who has GIMP could tell me how to cut out things in the picture that would help.

This is helpful. :)

The GIMP is very good in my opinion. I would be surprised to find a free product superior to it. I have heard good things about Paint Shop Pro. It costs money. I want to say somewhere near US$100, but I’m not sure. You can get a free trial if you’d like.

Yes, I’ll admit that the GIMP for Windows is a bit rough around the edges.

the gimp is okay. i still prefer to use photoshop over the gimp, but that's due more to my comfort level with photoshop. the gimp does have some nice script fu for effects and what not. but you can get 3rd party photoshop plugins also.... for free too, if you know who to talk to. :didi:
