An anonymous source has given me the opportunity to a dedicated server, with low costs! It will be ready within about one week, and we can move over! Imagine the speed we will get!
P4 3.0 Ghz
1024 MB RAM
200 GB HDD
200 GB Bandwidth
Running Linux, of course!
And no, this is no joke.

Wow that's awesome! We don't really need it, but it's good to have since we know we can now expand allot without worry.

There should be a noticible speed difference, no?
Nevertheless, a lot of iso downloading can be done now.

speed is limited to everyone's connection, so I don't think there will be much a difference. The current host is probably handling everything fine, and our connections are the bottleneck. Unless you have like a crazy 3MB/sec line or something, and some people can actually get that, but a normal 1/2Mbit line won't notice a difference.
But as for iso downloading... yeah that can get fun, all we need is a "Secret room"

actually, if you ask me, some other sites load much faster than this site for me, and they run the same forum software on bigger forums, telling me it's really the server.

well the server does have a big impact.
Someone I know online who runs a fairly big tech site might be giving me some hosting. I'll definatly take it. I'm sick of my host. They've been screwing around with everything lately. Every time I check the server clock is on a different time zone.
all my logs are screwed up because of that.

Ah, okay!
This is very nice of $person.
I’m hoping for something positive, but this forum has been pretty fast for me already.
(Although I have experienced downtime for the last two nights at about the same time…)
God, Red… Changing the time zone? That would annoy me extremely. They should stick with GMT, I say…
What Linux distribution will the server be running? [s]If[/s] When Linux fails to do its job, I can hook you up with a proper solution powered by the more competent Windows ME.
Actually, I can’t.
Cisco probably could though.
EDIT: Killed a bit of the quoting.

I can provide a great server. Just not the connection. So you'd have to stare at the "could not resolve hostname" error and imagine yourself connecting to a AMD athlon 3200+ server with 3GB of ram and the page loading very fast.

*bites the bait yet again* I have do have backup copies of nearly every actual OS that Microsoft has released, but winME does not meet the criteria for 'actual operating system' in my book and my collection is free of the taint thereof. My only experience working with winME is over the phone when I was doing HP tech support.
Good to hear about the upgrade.
