Because were bigger, and we're on top.
Just why did we have to sell Alaska it's not like americans can live in that kind of weather anyway.

We did not even end up going to watch the fireworks lol... we were watching a movie and it ended up being longer then we thought. Oh well, so I missed 15 minutes of OOOHH AHHHHs

?? Alaska used to be Canada's property, no? If I remember learning this in history Canada was threaten to sell it or something like that.

Alaska was bought from Russia in 1867, monsieur! I hope you just misunderstood your teachers instead of them actually telling you otherwise.
EDIT: Wrong preposition that totally changed the meaning!

Nope, they said it was part of Canada and that the US bought it.... I guess they were wrong.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure it was purchase from the USSR. But canada is the only country ever to march to our capital and burn down our White House

We bought it from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics before it disbanded and became the independent countries of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, etc.... 12 became independent and 3 became the baltic states.
