Yep things are getting together. Lot of work required still, no usercp, no admincp, no access checks etc... so there's lots to be done. The forum permissions will also be per user and also per group, but the user permissions take priority. Same with other things such as PM space. The admincp won't be easy to make though, but I think I'll make it fairly simple. phpbb, ipb and vB all use the same style, so instead of doing that too, I'll be making it fairly different. In fact I'm even thinking of building it into the forum itself and not even have a seperate admin cp. Sort of like how you can moderate things directly on the forum, well it would e the same thing but for creating forums and such. But not sure yet though, it may be easier to actually have it seperate and less messy.

Looking good so far, not much I can say yet as like you point out, the admin side will be more interesting to view. Good work so far though, this is an ambitous project, I take it you'll be upgrading iceteks when you have reached your first stable release?

Yeah I'll upgrade once I hit 1.0. But I'll probably use the beta on the squirrelbbs site for support forums. Eventually I'll merge iceteks and the support in the same forum, probably.

Cool... Colours aren't to my taste but that's hardly a concern I understand, I guess you'll include an easy templating system, right ? Once you get a stable enough beta/release going, I'd be happy to test run one, im pretty proficient with this kinda stuff.

Yeah the template system will be very similar to IPB. And right now everything is coded to use templates, so there's hardly any hard coded html. And it uses css so you can change the shades easly. I'll be adding graphics by the end, but I'm not really worrying about that yet. I find most BBS use blue, so I wanted to use something different. And there's no way I'm using purple like vB does.
