New job!

I applied for a new job at our NOC a week ago or so, just found out yesterday that I got it!

Not sure when I start, as they probably need to find a replacement for me, which I think will be hard. Nobody wants to work where I was, the customer is brutal to work for.

Can't wait to start, should be interesting1

Not sure yet, they'll probably make me stay till they find a replacement, but I'm hoping I can leave faster. Either way I just hope they don't tell the IT manager before last minute. He's going to flip when he finds out. He's actually part of the reason I'm leaving. He's just crazy insane to work for. Was getting tired of his BS as well as all his red tape. He buys it in bulk industrial size rolls I think. :P

Wait... Did you apply for a job within the same company? Or are you on contract?

If not then no one can "make" you stay. :biglaugh:

Also whats this about red tape? :grade11math:

Oh yeah same company. Right now as a level 3 server tech I'm on contract at a specific client, and that IT manager is hard to work for. He's not really my boss but think he is, and "the customer is always right" is key, even though he's often wrong. He knows nothing about technology. Because he worked on the old IBM mainframes (note: an iphone is more powerful) and Univac systems way back in the day he thinks he's all that.

Red tape is basically political BS to make work harder. This guy LOVES that stuff.

So looking forward to get out of there. He will be PIST when he finds out too. He was planning to drop the contract and hire us. The pay would have been good, but there would be zero room for any advancement, at least the company I work for now has lot of oportunities.

So last night the IT manager found out in a meeting. Apparantly he was fuming. Today he's just giving me the silent treatment. This is so hilarious. He's a control freak and this is a situation he has no control over. Sucks to be him!

Can't wait to start, but I think I have at least a couple more weeks here as they have to find a replacement and all that.

He gave me the silent treatment most of the day, but according to my coworker who was stuck in that meeting, he was PISSED. He's a control freak, and this is a situation he has no control over. I love it.

Later today he gave me a quick soap box, basically putting me down and saying it was a bad career move etc.

I don't care if it's a good or bad career move. It's more money (because of the shift work), easier job, and don't have to deal with him anymore. Could not ask for more. He says I will forget all my skills because I won't be working a server job anymore. He does not know me or realize I have a full 42U server rack in my basement. I do more server work at home then at work. LOL There we're not allowed to touch anything and constantly walking on egg shells just to keep the stuff running because everything is so out of date.

This week is almost over, Monday he wont be in, Tuesday is the closing for my old job, from there, I should find out when I start. Hopefully I don't have to train the new person.

Looks like your happy about it all then eh :biglaugh:

Any permanent job that comes with a pay raise is never a bad move

So what is the new work anyways? I'm sure it's not far off of electronics.

It's basically monitoring services, like networks, phone systems, servers etc. It's a pretty big operation actually, it's not just Timmins, but it spans like a big part of Canada. Different parts of Bell territory and what not. I won't be getting as deep into the technical stuff but touching a bit of everything, but it sounds like there is lot of spare time when on night shift, so I can probably do training and stuff, something I would never be able to do with my current job.
