This is hilarious:

So, my boyfriend bought a '96 Cherokee (XJ) SE, for way too much, like around $3,000. It broke down and he has put another $2,500 in it and totally rebuilt the engine and did a lot of after market work on it. He has and will do all the labor himself, he refuses to pay for labor. Now, he finds out that the motor needs to be taken back out and fixed again and is looking at another $700. I said he should just sell it and wipe his hands clean, he says he won't make enough.

Firstly, what is your guys' opinion on what he should do? Secondly, how much do you think he could make parting it versus just the whole car as is?

Thanks for your guys' opinions!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the reply she probably wasn't expecting

You want my opinion? Ok…

Shut the hell up. You’re not his wife. You’re not paying for the repairs. It’s absolutely none of your business what he does with his Jeep or his money. I know your type well… first it’s “Sell the Jeep because it’s costing too much money.” Then it’s “No, you can’t go spend the weekend with your buddies because I need you to take me shopping.” Then it’s “Oh gee, honey… I’m pregnant. Gosh, I have no idea how that happened.”

You’re a DreamKiller. You kill a guy’s dreams, take away his future, tie him down with a fat mortgage and too many babies, and turn him into just another miserable guy wondering, “How the hell did I get here?”

Do you really want to help him? Here’s what you do… go to your local library (it’s a big building with books inside) and check out a couple of books on rebuilding engines. Read them, over and over, until YOU understand what needs to be done. Then help him get that engine out and rebuild it. Tie your hair back in a ponytail, put on some old jeans and get your hands dirty. Hand him wrenches, hold the light, pull the wire connectors apart, help him get the hood off… help him with anything he needs. When he gets tired, run inside and make him a hot lunch or dinner. Fix him coffee, hot chocolate, whatever he wants. (But NO beer. Beer is for when the job is done.)

Then when the day is over and you’re both exhausted from working on the engine, push him into a hot shower and jump in with him. Scrub his back, wash his hair, rinse him off, and dry him with fluffy towels still hot from the dryer. Then push him into bed and screw his ears off. Then get up the next day and do it all over again.

Make him realize that rebuilding an engine is a slow and methodical process. Make him realize that every step should be regarded as surgery; every step must be perfect… perfect torque, perfect fit, perfectly clean. If you run into a step that you just can’t figure out, ask for help from someone who knows what he’s doing. Are you cute? Put on a low-cut top, show some cleavage and go (by yourself) to the local Jeep shop, and explain to the guys that you are helping your boyfriend to rebuild his engine and neither of you can figure out this one little step, and do they have any advice…

Think it won’t work? Think again. We guys love to help cute girls, even if they have a boyfriend. (Hey, maybe you’ve got a sister, or girlfriend…)

But absolutely DO NOT whine or complain. Do not say a single negative thing. Not a single “Oooooo, I broke a nail.” If you break a nail, or cut your finger, or bang a knuckle, you just shut up and DEAL WITH IT. You should be a hopelessly optomistic, never-say-die cheerleader, encouraging him every step of the way.

That’s my opinion.

thats not funny at all red. where did you get that from was it an old post.? or one from a day ago.?
i'd give him a peice of crap he can chew on for over a year and he won't get enough brains to take it out of his mouth because he would love the taste.

that guy that replyed to her was an a....l i'd tell him off in a heartbeat.
rebuilding an engine is slow? my a.. i can have one out of the car and rebuilt and put back in the car in 8 hours.
i've done it before. on the olds x frame's and with the gmc gas modle remade to diesel back in the 1980's. that includes yanking the tranny with the blocks and put it back in too.

i've yanked out engines and replaced them with pre rebuilt ones in an hour.

that guy that replyed to that girl needs his head checked with the doctor and the guys with the little white coat. why i never heard of such a bunch of nonsense. slow rebuilding an engine.?

oh and to tell her she is a dream killer is the most id10t thing to do. what if her boyfriend wanted to get rid of that crap nickle and dime trap and just thought he could not give it up because his pals would never let him hear the end of his misfortune, and he might like lots of kids.

why that reply poster wanted to insert his live in to those two's i don't know but i know he was not correct in things he said. except that a cute girl will always get help from any guy. well most any guy because we got that thing that makes us stupid around them.
we try not to be stupid, most of us make it but the rest just end up stupid.
***********
now watch that be from one of my old posts when i was in my other personality  B)

I'm 50/50 on it lol

He is an a$$ But the dream killer part has a high chance of being correct. Putting even 10k total into the jeep will always be cheaper for both insurance and cost overall then running out and getting something from a dealer just because the wife wants something that just works. Does get you stuck in dept together so nether party can bail easily.

I want an engine swap. Come visit me roving lol Think your can yank my ford engine and gimmie a custom turbo rotary lol

they still use rotary's ? i seen some photos of motorcycles that have them old rotary's on them. just how they got the cylinders to stay fixed
and the shaft to spin i don't know but them old byplane engines looked
strange on them cycles.

but i can yank your old worn ford out and put a pre rebuilt ford back in for you maybe in half an hour? depending on how blooming cold it is out side in your driveway. i changed a flat on my old t bird in 5 minutes
thats getting out of the car popping the truck lid. getting the spare tire out and then getting the jack out. then jacking up the car taking off the lug nuts and yank the flat off put the spare on tighten the lug nuts, kick the bumper jack bottom so it drops pick up the jack and the spare toss both in the trunk at the same time close the lid and jump back in the car, and yell at my sister who wanted to drive it for doing that donut and knocking the welt off the rim. in the 28 below snowstorm.

i could do that red and you would be shocked as to see it work.
i'd just need another motor as yours would only work for part of it.

so that is what this is? i was thinking he had multiple engines
but no idea it was a chainsaw engine they used.?

now with that video you linked too i can tell they got 24 of them
engines on that thing.

i renamed the photo to match the bike.

thats before your time i guess its an old prop engine. most likely from ww 2, the old by planes i think that the engine turned and the prop was on them.

i don't think that one in the photo is one that turned after all? it looks more like the prop was on the shaft and the shaft turned. if that is right then it would not have been hard to put that on the bike.

Ahh ic. Still looks like they stole it off a starwars racer thingy :roflmao2: Forget what they are called.

Did some reading on them WWI engines but I dont understand how valves and the compression cycle would work if the engines themselves spin? Pistons being on the outside would have to be stationary so what causes the compression? Guessing 2stroke rather then 4 as that would explain valves but still need compression for it to make sence?

Testing one here

wow i did not even know they had anything like that online.
glad you found it. i knew they turned the prop on the old byplane's by
having the engine turn but could not prove it glad you did.
there's tons of video's about it online.

you know why they turn the prop before starting, they had to turn the props on all old engines like that even in ww 2. its because the oil pan is the cylinders and would drain in to the bottom ones and you cant fire it up with out getting the oil out of the chamber. so you turn the prop then fire it up when the thing gets hard to turn.

You sure? I was thinking it was to get fuel and compression into it because you need to cut off the fuel to shut it down. This would leave all cylinders empty/air only no? Making a first "pull" or cycle useless as it would be compressing air only rather then A/F. Also they are a 4 stroke :D Would explain why 2 spins are needed in the video. Piston#1 first spin would be Exhaust>Intake Spin 2 would be Compress>Fire

Spin1
Piston 2 would start intake>compress
Piston 3 compress>fire (But only has air no fuel)
Piston 4 going back to exhaust
Wont start lol No single piston gets an intake and fire stroke on one rotation so 2 full rotations would insure all cylinders are loaded

Interesting about the oil though. How it got oil never even crossed my mind lol
Fuel makes more sense to me because after seeing a cutaway turned and your oil info it looks like it wouldnt matter if the oil collected on a few bottom pistons as on the intake and fire stroke it would throw the oil to the other pistons anyways and im sure while running it evens out fairly quickly. Unlike a car though I'm sure that the 2 spins offers great startup protection before its running but I doubt thats the reason they do it.

yep i'm sure, the valves are closed on the bottom. but the oil ports are not. the oil leaks down in to the bottom cylinder. and you can't compress oil it just blows the seals and valves and stuff. does not do good for the engine.

plus dad was a air crew ground cheif in the navy that worked on prop engines. he studied up on these old engines. he said he knew of several times the engines blew up on guys that forgot to spin the oil out of the bottom cylinders. yep any way you put it in any era flying is not really as safe as everyone thinks. :(

Height in general is save :biglaugh: Falling never will be as things can and will fail.

Anyways ya I can see how oil can slip past the piston rings and stuff while its been sitting overnight so its probably both reasons why they do it. Must go through alot of oil and spark plugs :biglaugh:
