well the email i got has these FAQ's listed in it.

but in re reading that email i think they are talking about in use with hotmail only?

but not sure.?

Frequently asked questions:

Why are we disabling DAV?

DAV is a legacy protocol that is not well suited for client access to large inboxes. Over time, as we've provided more e-mail storage to our users—and now offer 5GB inboxes for free—a more efficient access protocol is needed.

What are we replacing DAV with?

We have developed a new, much more efficient protocol called DeltaSynch that is far superior to DAV especially for large e-mail inboxes. It enables email clients to only download changes since the last time the client polled the email server for changes. This is much more efficient and high performing than having to download all the headers in every folder as is the case with DAV.

Is DeltaSynch compatible with Outlook Express?

The new protocol unfortunately is NOT supported by Outlook Express and support would require too many changes to the Outlook Express software.

Is there a different or new mail client I can try that uses DeltaSynch?

Microsoft is providing Windows Live Mail, a free e-mail client that has the familiarity of Outlook Express and much more. This free, next generation email client  enables users to easily manage multiple e-mail accounts including Windows Live Hotmail and other e-mail accounts that support POP3/IMAP. Windows Live Mail also integrates well with other Windows Live services, is optimized to work with Windows Live Hotmail, and offers:

Offline mail
Windows Live Hotmail account aggregation for those users with multiple Hotmail accounts
Account aggregation for POP and IMAP mail accounts
Rich photo-sharing capabilities
Advanced search via integration with Desktop Search
Safety tools (Anti-Virus scanning, anti-phishing, anti-spam features across aggregated accounts for customers who do not have an Anti-Virus product)
Integration with Windows Live services including Windows Live Spaces
RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed aggregation
Ability to send SMS (short message service) text to a mobile phone from Windows Live Mail

Not much of that I understand. They keep talking security. It's a little late for that since we've all had to provide our own so long. I'm beginning to wonder what's being loaded with the updates. My pc with DSL crawls for no reason. Windows security feature is off.

I know nothing about Windows Live Email...just using the hotmail feature. Maybe I'll pull that email I got out of the trash and see if it is the same one you got. It was something about Live Email so I just hit delete. :dosgonebad:

Apparently I'm using the classic version of Live Windows. I'm being urged to get the full version which I don't need. No need to share pics, videos or take it on the road either.

I've not seen anything about OE not being supported. Why not sell XP anymore? The last I read about Vista, most pcs are not equipped to handle it. :pissed off:

the email i got said it is only outlook express and outlook that won't pick up HOTMAIL. i just keep forgetting theres a difference in hotmail and email.

but since xp has outlook express in it and they are going to stop it from getting hotmail. then i guess they are not wanting to sell it if outlook is in it. and are just going to stop it then. not sure what else is going to be used for the reason other then m$ want's to stop xp.

Whats worse is they're already talking about another OS so that means they'll drop vista in a few years, whats the point of upgrading now?

I'm scared of their next OS. 6GB of ram will be minimum requirements.

Hardware manufacturers are strungling to keep up with windows. :roflmao2: 8GB is the current max a standard motherboard can hold and thats only recent stuff. 4GB has been the max for a while and even semi new stuff is maxed at 4, but yet vista barely runs on that. :o

your sure you did not mis that number in front. 1

as in 16gb's

they are getting alittle on the stupid side. but knowing they wanted to make everyone go to use the online apps from their servers and not really get a cdrom of the program software, only a paper with the lic number on for your umteen dollars us. for the software,

i think they might be making everyone get mad at the amount of stuff they have to get. so they will change their minds about using the online apps.

well what they at m$ did not figure is that yes we will change our minds, but not to what m$ likes. we'll go to linux and stick m$ in the toilet. :downthehole:

they keep it up and just as fast as we put them in the top spot for computer software, we'll put them in the bottom at the dump.

Gosh, I'm too old to learn a new OS. I have enough trouble with Windows. Surely they have to know there will always be a market for average pc use. We don't all need or want a racehorse. But I suppose it's all supply and demand...as long as consumers keep spending to get what they think is the biggest and best, it will be made available. But we do need to have a choice what to run on a pc. Upgrade or not. :pissed off:

Well depends on what you're running. Vista ran fine on my laptop, 512MB of RAM. I've also run it on 1 and 2GB configurations; so to each thier own.

As for XP, they've extended support. Problem is, it's not so much Microsoft that pushed Vista, but Corporate Clients that kept asking Microsoft for new versions. Remember that Vista was supposed to have alot more features that we've lost in the wait for it.

In terms of the next version, actually, it's supposed to be out late 2008 from what I've been hearing on the business side. I'd think at the latest early 2009.

I agree with Wren, it gets frustrating. I compare Vista to when XP first launched. Alot of new, alot of frustration with it.

They're shifting more towards online-based apps; and as I've always said, to each thier own. We'll be able to use whatever OS we want, but of the same token, each has thier own flaws. Most helpdesks are trained at supporting Windows. Most manufacturers will ship Windows. Yes, you'll get an update every week minimum; but do people so quickly forget that this is what we've grown up on? Linux users patch and update thier kernels on a regular basis, yet Windows gets flak for being one of the most widely used and therefore widely targeted OSes. Anyway, not to fuel that debate, just saying the next few years are going to be very interesting for the PC industry.

Take for example the push to server-based computing. When was the last time you downloaded a piece of software (ie Acrobat Reader) that didn't include the Google Toolbar. I'm sorry, but I get worried when all my data and the applications I use to create it are on a server as opposed to my local machine. I back up to a server, and I store to a server, granted, but it gets scary when you consider that it introduces a single point of failure into something that's become so mainstream. Imagine word processors that access your data that's stored on a server, but the application is stored on the server too. Application goes down and your documents are of no use to you, even if you have multiple computers cause you don't have a local copy of the application. Strange.

Yeah I'm really not fond of the whole server based stuff. Sure its cool - if the server is under your full control.

But for big programs like office suite I rather have it locally.

Lately Linux has been doing quite well though and has picked up quite a lot as a desktop OS.

Right now if I was to start a company, I'd probably deploy Linux and make most of the stuff web based (php/mysql/c++), like ticketing systems etc.
