yep my win98 system is down.
the mother board was so old it has 3 isa slots on it.
well a couple of the caps on it got hot enough they blew their tops
well just enough to barely split the x in the metal but that was
enough to stop the system.
I'm broke so i got to go to work to get money and buy a new system.
what do i do
what do i do?
the sad part is i have most of the stuff i used on that hd. if i can't get
a win98Os board that is cheap i have to buy a new system and that wipes
my stuff off the hd.?
maybe its time to start working again? back to the drudge.

wow if it has ISA slots its time for an upgrade anyway. Good excuse to buy yourself a nice quad core system.

WHY would you need a Win98 board to run a hard drive?
Any board will run Win 98--Won't it?
Why would the board care what OS is running?

no idea richard but the board i was trying to switch out to was from an win98se system and it would not work with the win98 system.?
strange as it might seem the system is working again with the old mother board..
i got the idea to put the old pent 2 266 hrz slot cpu back on the board. to see if by chance it would use that one.
and it did. so it seems the two blown caps are on the circit for the the faster pent 2 333hrz cpu. either that or the over night off let the caps cool down and my switching to the slower cpu let them work with out over heating?
not sure what all i know it i got it back to working so i got my tunes again.
still i'm going to back up everything i have changed since the last back up, one scare is enough.

but I'm going to use it until i can't no longer the software is working good its the hardware that is starting to mess up.
as long as its a standalone computer there is no need to worry about anything from the web messing it up.
and i got the sound on it just as good as possible and the win98 os seems to be able to handle long wav files of an hour before it locks up. winMe and winXp crash at less then 15 minutes worth of wav file length.
besides that with all the money billy g. wants for his OS's and what he got from us already. this computer better work until the gold melts off the mother board.

nope i dont want no more old machines. got two one working and one busted
the one busted is newer then the one thats working.?
but i don't want any more headaches. i got a friend in FL. usa that says
he would gladly send me some of his old machines also. but i don't want them.
i got this old isa board win98 working in a new full tower matrix case, now just getting it ready for when i have to go to xp pro. which by the way i seen is dropping in price in the snail mail mag's. last i seen it was 150 us dollars.
plus shipping of course.
i also seen in one mag. you can buy a new acer computer with vista in it. and they will down grade it to the more stable xp pro system if you want.
so there is still a demand for the older xp system which is nice to know.
but it seems the old win98 is way out the door and just a few still have it working.
but shucks mom's still got the old win 95 computer that starts up and runs. and it was an upgraded win3.1 system she does not use it now since she has the winXp pro but she will turn it on some times to play an old game it has.
we just don't toss anything that trys to work or does work just because its old.
it has to break beyound repair then we'll find another use for it? or if not able to we toss it. but i hear the old systems make good door stoppers and or the monitors make good fish tanks?

lol,
well i have some working dinosaurs in the warehouse that i keep for antique reasons. I have a working win95 pack-bell, a 286 zeneth with a daughter card, and an old ass 86x comador with a tape drive, but i dont have the tapes for it to boot up, but the prompt comes up when you turn it on. Fun to play around on the green monochrome screen sometimes. Draw neat pictures with the special chars.
