okay new computer.
bought cheap for a few hundred.
no modem.
no floppy drive.
but it has winxp pro.
no cd rom.
no bundled software.
no back up cdroms.
but it has a dvd cd combo burner
thought all was there when i went to plug in the phoneline
i found they did not give me a modem but used the motherboard
with an eithernet plug on it.
and that plug is what i was thinking was the phone line when i looked at
the back.
well great i thought now what?
then it hit me the thought of take the modem out of the old junk computer
its bound to work.
so i go about getting ready for that when i thought. you stupid why not just
use the new fax modem that was bought 3 years ago to use in this dell but the dell would not accept it.
so i did i used the new 3 year old still in box us robotic's modem.
put it in got it all plugged up and booted the computer ready to go online
and get the updates,
but the dadgum computer would not see the modem?
turns out the drivers were too old. to work in windows xp pro 2002 setup.
even though the drivers were 2004 versions?
well great now what. i went and got the new updates from online by using this dell computer with the highspeed isp.
then i put them in the new system and rebooted.
still wont work. this went on for like 4 hours trying to get the dadgum drivers to work.
it kept telling me to turn on the modem.? i kept telling it the dadblasted modem is an internal modem.
about to put my fist throught the whole mess. when i was getting out of the control panel i seen the system admin tools. umm ?
i know nothing about using them so i go in and start messing with them anyway
found the services panel. thought services have to be turned on or started?
could that error alert from windows be talking about the service? if so what service?
so i opened the panel on both the new system and this dell.
compaired them. and turned the ones on the new system to match this dell.
rebooted a few more times. and it finally installed the modem completely and started up and went online. i thought its about time after 6 hours.
then i go to get the updates at all the software places i needed.
when i got to windows update that really me off.
something like 11 hours of updates needed. so i had to get them about 8 to 10 at a time.
thats when i found the system was just the set up for winxp pro 2002 and had no updates since then..
i got off line after the first 15 were downloaded.
and i got the august auto patcher cdrom out that i had made and kept. and i put all them in. i'll fix them dangblast it.
so i go back on line after that and check to see what if any they decided to make me get now.?
and they had another 4 to 8 hours of updates from windws update again.?
boy was i boiling now its already 11 pm. and i wanted to get some sleep last night. it would have been the first time in 3 days i got to sleep. but no.. not now not thanks to windows update.
okay so i get the updates 5 to 9 at a time. then i come up on the site and see that it wants me to get 3 updates for dot net framework. i click on the okay load them. the estimated time was 9 hours. i said now just wait a dadgum miniute here i been up a long time now and its 2 am and i have another 9 hours to update?
horse hockey on that. i picked up the phone and called redman washington.
said is there any cdrom you can send me for this cause i aint sitting here for 9 more hours today..
they said i'm not in the tech support. i'll have to transfer you to them, but in the mean time just go to the download center and get them on a highspeed computer and put them on the slow computer from that route. i'll transfer you now. i said oh thats right thanks.
i got the 9 hours worth of downloads in 3 hours. and got them all set up.
then i went online again with this dell to check this forum and get email.
and i thought i better check for updates for this at majorgeeks and see what i can get there for anything on this dell.
big mistake.
got to majorgeeks and they had a link for windows xp sp 3 from microsoft's site.
so i got it with my download manager on this high speed wireless.
and i am glad i did. cause the dadblasted thing was 336 mb's in size.
it took me 4 hours cause the wireless server kept crashing.
good thing it had resume downloading turned on.
then i thought boy am i glad i got this on the wireless. cause theres now way in
i'm going to sit there for that 336 mb's on dial up. but i pitty the poor guys that still only have dial up. an.. sh....t mom's only got dial up now i got to ?
i'll burn a cdrom and send it to here with instructions on how to run it.
i got 3 here to set it up on.?
