:o

okay back on the sony vaio.

i recovered back to factory spects with the recovery disk.

it was xp home. so i updated that completely.

i mean every update the last 3 years was put on it.

then i added software programs like open office
and m$ office xp. and picture it.

then i used the upgrade cdrom again and put xp pro back on it.

now the dadbasted thing went and took out i e 7 and put ie 6 on it
again.
and then it went and took the avg lic out i had to reinstall both them.

but the kicker is the dagnabit thing tells me i need all the updates i just
added in winxp home?

so i tryed a few of them and it won't install them.?

what in the is going on with that dang thing?

i had the security advisor from m$ before to tell me what i needed
and let me download them one at a time.
but i can't find a link for that program now.?

this is some piece of crap the vaio computer is causing me a headache
and a mind ache beyound believe. :bsod: :banghead: :self payback:

on the bright side
:awesome: :yo:

i got the windows me upgraded to winxp pro and all updated.
just ran out of hard drive space for somereason.
but that is getting cleaned out little by little. B) :awesome:

i really hope the troubles from the vaio are just on that computer
cause i got to upgrade this dell next.

:no no no:

You installed it kind of backwards

IF the XPpro disk was an upgrade disk (not a full XPpro disk)

Because I would assume that if you had a full XP pro CD, you'd put in a full XP pro & not upgrade---right?

Then you should have installed the home--then ran in the xp pro then the upgrades & then everything else.

When you ran in the xp pro after you upgraded, it 'repaired' xp home by taking it back to it's defaults as it installed Pro.

The same thing happens if you do a repair 'reinstall' of XP.

I usually have to reinstall my printer, Acronis & Diskeeper programs & I have to readjust my page file & boot.ini & the hot fixes.

That's why I use that Autopatcher to do the 'fixes' --because for how often I do a repair reinstall, I'd be downloading forever.
:dosgonebad:

I do the reinstall, open Autopatcher, it shows which fixes I need-I check them off & click install--it does everything else itself.

Duanka
i think thats right spelling my german is baddd.dddd.ddddd.ddddd

i did not have the choice the sony vaio was so messed up and all
i had was the factory spec's recovery disks so i used them.
i was under the impression that the xp pro would keep all the
updates. from the xp home since it needs the same things.

which is why we got the upgrade version.

i did try it first and it did the same thing.
i have done the recovery and re install of the upgrade 3 times now
i am sick of the da..dblasted thing stopping the updates when i get
the xp pro in the computer. it only seems to stop them on windows
update site as i can download other things from other sites and install them.
so its just something to do with window's :fish: carpy files. :fish?:

thanks again for the link to the autoupdater i did not know what that was for
i seen it at majorgeeks but just did not know what to use it for but now i know.

they had an update on it about 3 days ago. if you need that info.

What does that mean--that it stops the updates, from Windows update?

Do you mean that it fails with an error code or just doesn't show as many updates?

One thing to check is if you have Windows Installer 3.1.

Search for it & check properties to see what version.

If it's not 3 or 3.1 download that installer & install that & then try updating again.

Yes--I do need that update for my Autopatcher--they update it once a month--thanks.

it means that it says i downloaded the files and it checks the downloads.
then starts the install and 3 seconds later it flashes the panel that shows all the updates as did not install.
it says something is stopping it on the computer from installing.??

duh yeah they are already installed. ! :(

well the autopatch thing was a pain in the butler... i tired to get the oldest versions i could but they kept stopping the servers no matter where i tried to get them and they say use an download manager but they don't support restarting if the download is stopped.

i got a old core version and install that it got most the updates.
then i got the new aug 2007 core and it got the rest of the updates.

i then went to windows update and it found more of the updates again.??

so i looked it had one on there that i did just need for a program the autopatcher stuck in the system so i got all the updates.
told it to install .

and windows / microsoft update site downloaded and installed all the updates this time.

so something was fixed in the massive updates from the autopatcher program. i'll keep that its a good thing to have. :D

but now the automatic updates will work on that computer so mom will atleast get the security updates.

OK now here's the thing--I don't know if you got this from their site.

In May they changed the AutoPatcher program.

So, you have to download the May 'Core' & install it--FIRST.

Then you can download & install the monthly updates & ad-on package.

Everything can be downloaded at once, but they have to be installed in order.

SO--First the May core

Then May hot fixes & ad-ons.

Then June--then July--Then August

The ad ons have like power toys, calculator--neat stuff like that.

It now appears as if you have to download a new August core--I'm not sure yet.

Their site is CHAOS--its like looking for a needle in a haystack. I'm registered there & I posted a complaint & then I found below--so know I'll probably get yelled at--LOL

I can never find full download links--always those stupid torrents.

I guess you can slip stream them onto a CD know, which is cool.

August 2007 releases

The August releases are here! Available from the download page
Note, the Vista & XP/Server-2003 x64 releases are not quite ready yet though, they'll be added real soon.

We have two surprises for you all this month.
1) We now have releases for Microsoft Office XP/2003/2007 (thanks to our new team member, Erik).
2) AutoPatcher 5.6 now supports slipstreaming updates into installation media, and my releases have slipstream installation instructions added to most general windows patches.

i could not get the may core? it kept killing their servers.

but i did get the nov 2006 and a few updates after that
so installed them in order and then got the august core and update
and installed them then i got the office core for 2002 and added that in
the mix.

then i redid all my computers i updated again, and got tired of the updating. i put all the updates in the computers from the cores
not knowing if i needed them or not.
but knowing the way m$ is i thought better safe then sorry.

yes i knew to install in order that is why i was trying to go as far back
as possible then move up the time line.

but m$ taught me about that in order install a looonnnngggg time ago.

somethings are still missing but not much and the computers are all working good now.

all 3 are on winxp pro including this one i'm typing with now. its the old dell xp home setup.

Anything prior to May 2007 of Autopatcher is not suppose to work with those after May because they changed the program.

I finally found the torrent there for the August 2007 'core'. & I just reinstalled it over my old Autopatcher files, but mine were all May 2007 & after.

So, what you should do is get the AUgust 2007 'core' it's like 321 MB--and uninstall anything you have there & install this instead. Then monthly, you just have to get the update

Now I have to look for the addon files & I found out they have Autopatcher for Office, too.

Ok Here are the Aug links:

The bottom 2 --'core & addon'--are for Office 2007

The last 2 links are where I got the other links--

"WHEW!"

http://autopatcher.uploadhookup.com/August...86_ENU_Core.exe

http://autopatcher.uploadhookup.com/August..._ENU_Update.exe

http://autopatcher.uploadhookup.com/August...6_ENU_Addon.exe

http://autopatcher.uploadhookup.com/August...07_ENU_Core.exe

http://autopatcher.uploadhookup.com/August...7_ENU_Addon.exe

These are the FULL downloads--not torrents.

yep i found that out they did not over install when i tried it i had to delete the older core and install the new august one.

then it redid all the updates again. i did not know if they had all the updates in the cores and just kept adding to them so i wanted
to get as far back as i could to make sure i got all the ones i needed.

thanks for the links i'll just keep an eye out on majorgeeks and when they say there was an update i'll download it from them. his mirror links work but you can't get any mirror links to work from those forum messages at the autopatcher site.

The links above are from a mirror site.

They are the full downloads--not torrents.

They work, because I used them.

The best thing, before you get all screwed up, is to uninstall the Autopatcher you have now.

Then, install the Aug core & updates & addons .

The top 3 links in the prior post.

Then, next month, you just need the new addon.

The last 2 links in the last post go to the mirrored site, which the links above them are from.
