here is some information on what i have and am using or going too on winXp.
1 and 2 are found at a personel firewall review site.
1. Sygate Personal Firewall (former vendor's site). Symantec Shelves Sygate Personal Firewall, Paul Roberts, eWeek, November 28, 2005. Sygate was purchased by Symantec (Norton) in August 2005.
2. ZoneAlarm Pro from CheckPoint (they bought Zone Labs). ZoneAlarm is the freeware version with fewer features but widely known and used.
i am having some isues trying to update the version of zone alarm and the above review tells me why?
they sold out and i can't get the new companys stuff to downlaod and work.
so i been looking for a new program i found one called pc tools firewall plus
only don't download it from any place but their web site. why? because
there is something wrong with the mirror sites and when you finish the download
it wont install?
so get it from this link
http://www.pctools.com/firewall/
here are the results of my testing the two firewalls with sheilds up at
http://www.grc.com
zone alarm 6.1.737.000 version from last november or earlier?
with out the pc firewall running. complete stealth mode.
with the pc firewall running complete stealth mode.
so running both has no effect on the za firewall.
pc mag's firewall plus program.
with za running complete stealth mode but that was cause of za.
with out za firewall running.
ports found closed but not in stealth mode.
these will need to be closed in the settings of
the pc mag's firewall if you want too close them.
pc mag's firewall was just set up to default settings.
this test result is for my xp home computer your test's might be different.
