its a 5 headbanger question.

look out here it comes a possible newbie style question.



can you script a vb script to control the keyboard strokes.
so you don't have to push each one of a millon buttons on
some program, all the time?





okay i know you can do macro's and i know you can do scripting with vbs to control keyboard operations.
what i posted that for was to get you in the right mode of thinking because that
is what i need some help with. no i am not codeing what the trouble is as follows"

media player has script in vbs that will press the shortcut keys to change the song genera for each song when the song starts to play or load in the player.

the media program keeps tossing out at random intervals an error alert and crashes the media program when i click on the okay button of the error alert.

this error alert is always.
"insert the meda program name" has caused an page fault in the
EQ .dll at .........................................................
....................................................................
......................................................................"

the ............ are all kinds of memory location numbers. and blocks.

they always seem to be the same numbers.

what i am starting to wonder is if the window's os of any version has any known or thought fixed errors that are dealing with scripts pressing the shortcut keys for any program..

does any one here know of any or remember something happening that is along this situation and how to fix it if it can be fixed?

Try increasing the size of your virtual memory. (page file)

If that doesn't do it , uninstall & reinstall the media player.

already done that richardj the swap is on a different hd,
one i use for only the swap and the temp files.
but win98 don't like swaps that are larger then 1250 mb's it starts doing
even stranger things when i go over that limit so i set it back to that one.

but that should be enough for the swap file.

i have uninstallled the media player and reinstalled the updated version.
but the error still shows up at times.

which is why i am wondering about the keyboard connection to the possible
cause of this error.

the other strange thing is that the error is also showing up on winXp some times.

What to do about a Page-fault, Illegal operation, or Fatal exception Error

These errors are usually caused by a bug in software, where two applications (or drivers) try to use the same part of your memory. For the most part, these are intermittent errors, and aside from the annoyance, they can be ignored.

If, however, this is happening frequenty, it can be caused by anything, including bad RAM, buggy drivers, and disk errors (run SCANDISK to correct). The best strategy is to try to figure out how to reproduce the problem, and then contact the manufacturer of the offending product. Write the message down, but keep in mind that all of those numbers (memory addresses) are absolutely useless to you; don't bother recording them unless a technician specifically asks you to do so. See Resolving Hardware Conflicts is you have reason to believe it's hardware related, or check out disk and file corruption for yet another direction.

I would start by going HERE

Do a full scan--mine takes overnight to do it.

It works great, scans for virus & bad registry items & junk files.

Then run scandisk.

To resolve this issue:
1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
2. In the Named box, type win386.swp.
3. In the Look in box, click Drive C, and then click Find Now.
4. Right-click the Win386.swp file, click Properties, and then click to clear the Read-only check box.
5. Click Apply, and then click Close.


Virtual memory is designed to be dynamic. If the swap file (Win386.swp) is set to read only, Windows uses the amount of memory that is allocated. When Windows attempts to expand to compensate for programs that exceed the physical memory, system error messages are generated.

wow since you posted that for me
i ran a check and came up to what might be the cause of the trouble.

since it i happening on both computers win98 and winXp ,
and i don't use one script for the program on win Xp, i can then eliminate
that as the cause of it.

what i do use on both is the media program, and the same keyboard and that
makes me think it is the keyboard drivers messing up with the program
and trying to use the same memory at the same time. since this and the win98

came out clean on any tests which i do i use other third party software
on he win98 since it is not online anymore. and the stuff in this win Xp is only
3 years old and no other programs have issues like this. so it is most likely the program and the keyboard drives.
i use the ergonomics keyboard from microsoft the white one with the ps2 cord.

since the program has a keyboard monitor to watch it for the pressing of shortcut keys that seems the most likely critter to cause the troubles.

thanks richard that has been driving me nuts the last 8 months or so.

You're welcome, I hope you actually find the problem

Page faults are memory or driver conflicts, as far as I know.

If you are installing drivers for XP, uninstall the keyboard & see if XP can install it's own drivers.

no i am not installing drivers. the trouble is only with this one media program. and it is on both computers i use that program on. i been trying to find
the cause for months. they did not believe me that there was any trouble when
told them but after so many times of me telling them and some one else told them.
then they also started to hunt for it. but they could not find it either.

i think it is the keyboard because that is the only thing that is used on both
computers besides this program. that would have anything to do with the areas of the error reports. if i don't use that program i dont get the reports so it has to be something in that programs code. with your post i told them what i thought might be the cause of it and maybe they can find it now. ?

and they even have a debug program for their program to help find the errors. but that could not even catch it.

If the installation package does NOT use the Windows installer,

I would uninstall the program & reinstall it in safe mode

Windows installer won't run in safe mode.
