As far as registering with an ISP email address, I don't use an ISP email. It has too many limitations on size and the webmail capability sucks. Therefore, if I can't register using my Gmail account, I will not be able to register.

Everyone has at least one isp or other email they can use, most if all isps provide a pop3 email. Theres still loop holes here as its easy enough to get webhosting that comes with a couple email addresses, but hopefully it will help.

I'd basically disallow the ones like hotmail since its too easy to just go make another account. I may think of another way, but basically I need to be able to have people enter some kind of information to identify them as a single person, without them being able to do it twice and make more then 3 accounts. I've been trying to brain storm different ideas. At the same time, I don't want to make things too complicated. But people doing spawns with 10 accounts is just unacceptable, so I need a way to control that, without hindering on legit multi accounts on same IP. (like the group that plays from internet cafe)

yeah, but with that iin mind, my ISP might offer more than one account. If I used my domain and created a dozen email accounts, I could do that too. The problem is I don't check or use them. I would never get any emails back if you used that as a communication method.

Something I might add too, is that the more strict the signup process is, the less likely someone would be to just try out the server unless they already knew someone or had additional motive to login. It's kind of a double-edge sword.

Yeah thats the issue, no matter what people might find a way. This is my main plan, but I'm hoping I think of something better.

Another idea I had is have some kind of program that runs on the client and communicates with the server. I'd probably make it so it acts as a gateway, so you actually connect to 127.0.0.1 1337 the gateway then talks to the shard and allow/denies logon. Theres a couple ideas in mind. This one may be even more viable.

Problem is, its part client side, and could maybe be cracked, and it adds a layer of complexity for the users. Though razor/connectuo etc is not required to connect, so its one program less to tell people they need.
