okay got a new phone it has a data port in it!!

what is a data port needed for in a phone?

this was cheap 8 usdollar phone so the only instructions were to tell me how to plug othe phone cord in.

so do any of you know what a data port would be doing in a telephone?

besides being lost!!

thanks i thought it was for a fax machine but it did not say fax

i'm old school and i don't have a dataport machine?

Yeah I would not worry about it. Think it's basically a splitter right in the phone, nothing more. May be a voice filter to it and thta's about it. I have one on my phone too. welcome to the world of phones with data ports, the step closer to voice over IP.
