Support Ends for Windows XP Service Pack 1
Effective October 10, 2006, support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) will end.
After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support or security updates.
To enhance the security of your computer and to continue receiving updates, we recommend upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). To learn more about this upgrade and the free technical support provided to download and install the service pack, visit the Web site.

Worse yet, they ended support for windows ME a few days ago.
That was the OS of dreams* and many people still use and enjoy** it!
* For techs that get paid 50 bucks an hour to troubleshoot the same problems over and over
** They dont realize all the problems with their PC and continue to enjoy all those gambling sites
