HOW TO FIX FEDORA CORE HEADACHES!

After this weekend, lot of my red hairs are now gray, heres a quick summary:

I migrated server from debian to FC5, installed needed stuff from CD and readded my config files and stuff.

Problems:
-samba DID NOT WORK, at all!
-procmail would not execute external applications (and it does not log it either)
-dovecot produces TONS of access denied errors in the logs, though it works.
-httpd wont start using "service httpd start" but will with just "httpd" at the cmd line

I have other issues, and will probably discover more as I move along, but these are the ones I've been concentrated on.

Fix? Its too simple... but it's the thing of finding it.

go to /etc/grub.conf and replace this:

        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 ro root=LABEL=/1

with this:

        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 ro root=LABEL=/1 selinux=0
[code]

(note the selinux=0 part).  the line may be different so if it is, just add the selinux=0 part and it should work the same...


Reboot.  Your system should work.

I hope this post helps people solve their FC5 headaches, specially with samba, the fact that its broken out of the box is just plain wrong...Well not samba is broken, but SE linux crap makes it broken.  I dont remember seeing an option for SE linux as package, only to disable it, but if you see it as a package.. DO NOT INSTALL!

SE Linux is like PVC piping, it stops even squirrels from getting in.  (squirrels aperently hate the taste of PVC... I've never tried it myself)

As per our discussion from a few days ago, I noticed in alot of postings that SE Linux is incompatible with alot of different packages and even some file systems (ReiserFS being one of them). In the initial installation of Fedora Core 5 you can specify disabling SE Linux but if you're not watching for it, it can easily pass you by. I feel your frustration though lol.

Ironicly, you should see the inside of my PC... lot of DIY electrical work in there, including a spliced printer cable end that plugs into the switchbox on my desk...
