Inbeded media won't play

OK---------SO I uninstalled Windows Media Player--totally--deleted everything--lol
CUS I got sick of it constantly wanting more codecs
Real player is now the default
BUT------When I get to certain inbeded media it shows that plugin needed box, then says a manual install is needed, which then takes me to the MS Media player download page.
WHY?? How do I overcome this??
And yes-- Real Player is checked to play all media files.
This site
HERE is a perfect example
Although this is audio--most times it happens to video
When viewed using I Explorer, it works just fine.
Actualy thats a funny link to a guy trying to cancel AOL the rep got fired HAHAHAHA

have you tryed a codec pack of some sort?
like try and get em all in one shot so you dont have to get em every time you run into a different codec and put media player or some other program back on
i have always used the k-lite codec pack even when kazaa has not bin on the pc itself and have never had a problem with missing codecs of any sort ... before it was on i had alot of files that wouldnt play cuz of codecs
TRY IT if ya wanna

OK-I followed yer link & installed a cpl of packs
One of them was XP Codecs & the other
One was the mega? codec thingy
and then I put in that real alternative player,
All of this also put in a Win Media player basic
ANYWAY so now everything works--for now

YAY!!
about time ive bin some help around here and not just lookin for help
but now ive got a bit torrent problem to post up lol
did you grab basic, standard or full? .. full seems to have more then ya need but then you never have problems with missing codecs
but ya that medai player basic thing you should of had the option not to install that ^^
tho if your computer is slow thats a fairly nice program to use as its not to heavy on resorces
you should probly put in a program of your choice if you have a prefrence ^^ ive never used real alternative player but i like light alloy ... its not the best but easy on the system
also i think g-spot installs with the codecs so "IF" by chance a file wont play you can find the missing codec with that.. tho ive only needed it once ^^
well i gotta go ask for help with my torrent crap ><

K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
Features of version 1.53:
Players:
* BSplayer [version 1.39.829]
* Media Player Classic [version 6.4.9.0]
SO--YES THANKS!--YER THE MAN!
lol
SO I'm seeing if I like that BS player or not--so far it seems good--good quality when it shows the vids.
The media player only kicks in for those embeded media files that I described in my first post
BUT I'm still having a problem with .wmv format--nothing wants to play it--- STILL
From that BS player I get a file error message & it just plays the audio-no video
Like I said I also installed a pack called XP codecs-from a differant site
I have more codecs then Carter has pills

.wmv .. that is a windows media player file is it not?
and like any microsoftish product there are "rules"
OK---------SO I uninstalled Windows Media Player--totally--deleted everything--lol
im guessing its just the new windows media player is missing
so you should probly put that back on now that you have codecs??
you said it was begging for codecs ... now you can feed it lol
just audio but no video is a sign that a codec may be missing ... knowing microsoft its probly a codec that installs with the new media player only
but are all files other then .wma/.wmv working properly now?

I always have trouble myself with stuff like that. Stupid codecs... there's not enough standardization in the way media is formated, so there's 100's of codecs and 1000's of different formats for each one, and WMP only handles so much, and this goes for any movie player really.
And the second WMP starts searching their "database" you know it wont find anything. I never actually seen that work, this "database" is probably an empty folder on their site.

diablo sv would be nice but i DONT want one ..... its my 7th fav car lol
if i did have one it would be sold so i could buy 9 of my 10 fav cars and would have enuff cash left over to tune em all up and pay to insure all 9 for the year
funny thing is tho my top 5 fav cars are all under 6000$ used without rust
even cheaper with rust @ rot
still if i had to choose i would go with japanese not american
80's corrola
80's murcury capri (bubble back looks sweet on these but its not jdm ><)
80's rx-7
80's supra
late 80's early 90's 240 sx
95-97 dodge ram
ok also not jdm but its the only truck i like
anyways im curious about what file your trying to play?
if you dont mind me asking

unless its somthing personal
but you do have my email addy so ^^
i wanna see if its just you or what >< ive had problems like that trying to play alot of files before but not since i put in my codec pack ... havnt had any since and my pack is way outta date lol

LOL-
I think it got deleated--but they are usually those that are inbedded in a web page.
I found another wmv on the web & downloaded it
It took the icon of the BSplayer
But opened in Media Player Classic
Which immediatly generated an error--I'm sorry Media player must close---
I then associated it (open with) VLC player & the icons changed & it played--
So far so good.
BUT yeah if I get it again where it won't play I'll send it to you.
Actually-if you're using Firefox, go back to the original post here & click on that link--does it play?
OR DOES THIS PLAY??---HAHAHAHAH RFLMAO
CLICK

Well-what happened was that I had to do a "dirty reinstall' of XP
This is where you put yer cd in then click -start-run & type in (your cd drive letter)
'X'I386winnt32.exe /unattend
This will 'reinstall' XP BUT it won't undo updates & hotfixes like a repair reinstall from boot will do--nor will it ask for the serial number.
It will also not fix a really corrupted system-but works most of the time(mine wouldn't even go the the dektop cus I deleted media player & a bunch of other junk)
So-I assume it reinstalled Media Player, but I have that VLC player set as the default for all extensions.

see what im thinking is your trying to stream the videos and most streamed videos are wmv and a streamed video normally opens in the browser using media player right
wmv = "W"indows "M"edia "V"ideo
wma = "W"indows "M"edia "A"udio
all other files are working right now cuz of codecs correct ?
thats why i think you need media player back on the computer
you can download it by clicking
HERE
