When I read that statement the first thing I thought was not the most obvious meaning.

I've never really been too much of a fan of thanksgiving. The whole schtick, the gorging, the traditional food and how it all related to giving thanks never really resonated with me. Perhaps in an earlier time when this was your last chance to have a really good meal before your meals relegated to whatever crap wouldn't spoil in the winter, but not so much now.

Yes, in most areas, bountiful meals aren't so unusual to come by around this time. Thanksgiving is now usually there just for chefs to have new recipes on how to butcher their turkey, while the younger generation only celebrate it because of the "good food" they would get after they "give thanks;" while the elders are thinking of how perfect the meals have to be because relatives are coming over from distant areas or that they want a royal meal in-place of common, leftovers.

meh, I can eat turkey anytime. Besides, it's been a few years since my family has done anything anyway. Everybody either working or can't make it into town.
