What in the hell gives you the idea that the black americans living today Deserve*(or even want) and apology for slavery.. They wernt slaves.. hell they're parents weren't slaves and most of their grandpanrets wern't slaves.. Remember also that alot of people that make up America today are immigrants from other countries that came AFTER that all started.. some even from your holy exhaulted self interested part of the world Will. Wasn't Desert Storm because the Iraqis INVADED Kuwait? After we freed Kuwait, we didn't attack Iraq. Our only objective was to free people.

It's pointless to diss a country because of history. Canada was not very nice back then either... I'm not sure if we had slavery but we did reject the biggest number of immegrents, which is definatly not something to be proud of. Now things are more friendly towards immigrents (I think...). or how about germany, they have lot of blood on their hands but that's so passé.

I don't think we went into Egypt during Desert storm Will ... were talking abuot somthing that happened 2000 or more years ago.. As far as we know the only price they paid for their insolence was what was more or less portrayed in the bible.. (and as you so eloquently pointed out) it's not possible to prove that it acutaly happened that way... It really is beside the point however because almost every ancient civilization had some sort of Slave culture would you be happy going after their ancestors?.. and Eye for an Eye prehapse thousands of years removed?..

can you not see how silly it is to not just say, "Hey look slavery sucked but, lets just move on as equals?".. can't you see how distructive the kind of uninformed crap that gets spewed in generalization of all americans?.. I guess not.. but I hold out hope.

I don't think America owns anyone Will..(if thats what you meant) Except ourselves.. I can't say our government has done a good job keeping the image of this country up. in fact I KNOW the US. is CURRENTLY doing some things that I am not proud of (ex Gitmo, Abugrave, Iraq war, even considering re-electing the bafoon we have for a president). I don't want you to get the impression that I am defending this country.. because I won't do that.. We've done a lot of screwed up things in the past.. What I do want you to understand is that you cannot blanket statment everyone in the U.S... Saying things like "Americans this or Americans that" is an unfounded and ill informed way to express you opinion of the actions of our goverment. If you took the damn blinders off you probably find out that we agree on a great many things about the negitivity of the current station of the US. Frankly I'm pissed that we are where we are. In my opinon we should be a caring country who focuses on the individual a country who crushes the idealizm of the racist and hate filled world that surrounds us. Were a LONG way from it Will but I should hope that you understand that the U.S. has been around for a relitivly short period of time compared with European nations and, we went about building our culture in a differnt fashion. This allowed us to become the super power that we are.. but, to steal a line from one of my favorite TV shows "The young do not allways do as they are told".. We may be young but there are a great many wise people who live here and would have things change. People from the outside (if you truly are wise as you think) would try to incourage change in the US instead of hating what Is.

I would ask that you don't think of me as a defender of my countrys patriotism but, as someone who wants to be looked at as an individual and not as an "Arrogant American"

Actually, the really funny think about that is, a lot of the big idealists after the Revolution had slaves, and they sat there talking about freedom and how slavery was techinically wrong, while owning slaves themselves. We read an article for U.S. History in which Patrick Henry says he's against slavery, but won't give up his own because it would be inconvenient. And yes, "inconvenient" was his exact word. Seems pretty goddamn hypocritcal to me.

I think sometimes stuff like that needs to be shoved in peoples' faces, so we don't make the same mistakes over again. Like right now, I'm slightly annoyed with the Catholic Church, because from about 1000-1700 A.D. they were more evil than the Nazis. I mean, ridiculous stuff, tons of people killed, repressed, etc in the name of "god". People get mad at Islam extremists because they kill people in the name of religion, without realizing that Catholics did that for seven hundred years. I know the Catholic church and Catholicism aren't bad as a whole (I go to a Catholic school, and most of the Catholics I've met are great), but it's still something that bothers me, probably the same way slavery still bothers people.

And even though we're not responsible for the past, we are responsible for the future and making sure history doesn't repeat itself. That's my main concern.

But we do have a 40 year old helicopter, so that's a pretty high tech and well advanced vehicle. The pilot better have a parachute and a can of WD-40, and duct tape though, just in case something goes wrong.
