On the bright site, I'll finally be in the 21st century now, I'll have a 64-bit CPU. Yay!

Too bad data recovery is so expensive though... since I could send my drive to the states where they have cleanrooms and do a whole physical data recovery. I don't care about the C drive, I have an image so I just take 5 minutes and re-image, it's my D drive.... I was actually going to backup the whole thing to my server overnight, until it went corrupt on me. I just wish it was something as simple as being bad ram, or a bad drive but it's not, I've ran all the tests already.

Too complicated to understand?  Geezus, Red, sometimes I think you just like drama.  :P

You'd be freaking out too if the PC just randomly reboots and you loose your whole C partition, and then randomly the D decides to crap out too... I just lost over 100GB worth of data, the other 20GB or so was backed up in time...

I work for the State government doing IT troubleshooting. I don't freak out over what sounds like a simple hardware problem.

You could've pinpointed what it was in like 30 minutes...there's not much on a computer that can cause this type of problem. Processor, memory, mobo, and hard drive, video card (if there is one). Christ, five things.

I wish it was that easy... but I've already diagnosed all the hardware, and none of it is bad. that drive was actually in a full blown production server before I moved all the data to the 300Gig to use it in my system.

You still have to do it by process of elimination because sometimes diagnostics don't pick up any problems.

I would say virus, but I don't know of any that could propogate that fast, especially since you're running AVG. :nana:

Hey, if you wanted a new computer, just say so!

Too late, ordered the parts :P Thing is I could eventually figure this out, but ti's very stressing when I'm completely down with no machine, which means my sites are vulnerble to any attacks and I can't do crap about it, and I loose complete communication, such as email. This just completely slows down all production. I guess it teaches me I need redundancy... at least two working PCs configured to my needs. I keep figuring it has to do with windows not being able to handle big drives... but thing is, I'm sure I'm not the first one in history to have a 200GB drive in windows partitioned and having the data partition almost full... so you'd hear it somewhere that windows craps out.

But then again windows totally fubared up when I tried to use a 300 gig drive. It completely refused to boot, I never managed to use it windows with that drive, so it went in my linux server and was up and runing in about10 minutes.

OMG this is sweet, my life saver!
http://www.cdrdatarecovery.com/

After another full scan of the drive I'll send it there, and since the drive is in physical good condition, it will probably be rather cheap to recover the data.

wow just ran backups of all my databases... at least I have some on a local machine here now... since all those backups are... no, WERE, on my D drive...

So glad I have like 3 backups of the ytmnd legal data though, since I'll be needing it more I think. When I do my report I'll mention that I suspect a large virus comes from there but that I have no way of knowing for sure, I'm sure pentagon experts will be able to trace that... thing is though, it could be months, even years, till they get on that case. They have much more serious stuff to worry about these days. Mind you, the US is pretty tight on cybercrime too... I've always found that overkill, but I guess now that I fall victim of it, it's something to realize the seriousnes of. But it's still different then if someone would of simply hacked or defaced a site. You fix it, everything is fine after that... but when obscure permanent, but yet not real, damage is done to a corporatly productive machine like mine, it really screws with your mind, and costs lot of hours of productivity.

I still have a WMD to code, I'll have to sleep on wether or not I plan to use it. I don't think I will though, I rather watch them slowly die legally.

It still bothers me that my work machine + my home one got nuked by whatever caused this... it's almost supernatural or something. Like, what are the odds?

Only thing I hated about that game (or it might of been another) after some time you all had to gather back, then go back to hide, then keep going. I had this awesome hiding spot in a canoe, no one ever found me, but by the end someone asked why I kept runing in the oposite direction as everyone when it was time to go hide.

the way we played someone had to go hide, then we looked for them and whoever saw them had to scream bloody murder and everyone had to run back before they got tagged by the person who was hiding

man this really sucks... I still did not manage to restore any data off that drive. :( I might have to ship it out to Toronto or something and that will cost 100's maybe 1000's to get the data back. Stupid idiotic crash. what a piss off. I decided to put the 60 gig drive in it to see if it's because windows hates 200GB drives, now it's telling me that my page file is too small and to go to my computer to fix it, but yet it won't even let me log in, stupid piece of crap.

But in good news, ytmnd forums are down. I don't know if it's permanent or not. I have a bad feeling it's just some minor issues and they they'll be back, but I can only wait and see.

Can anyone access forums.ytmnd.com? Just curious, since I'm hoping it's actually legally down, and not that I'm blocked or something. But if it is down, I won't count it it being shut down due to legal reasons until I hear more about it, we're bound to get an attack too if it is down for legal reasons, and this is the worse time because my main system is caput... I can't even upload files to any of my sites right now, or backup DBs, how about that. :/

hmm there's some unconfirmed news it may come back "the day after" which means late today, or tomorow. I think this might of been to do a cleanup so it's nice and tidy when the FBI gets around to reading my submission...
