What's the point of a red light on the bottom of a mouse?

It helps the optical mouse detect movement.

I thought of something that would make a cool mod, changing the color of the light. Something like green or blue. But I would not have the guts to try that, maybe it's red for a reason, maybe the "eye" can only detect movement with infrared light, which I think this is what it is, but slightly off the spectrum which is why we can see it (like lazer light).

My friend has one...I just thought it was for show. I have an old plain one, still works for me.

I normally don't have any problems with ball mice, but I thought I might as well get optical since I had to buy a new one anyway.
Besides, there were many times that I almost lost the mouse ball!
I liked to play with it.
Now that my old mouse is useless, I guess I can play with the ball without worry now!
That's odd how my old mouse died like that.
I hope hard drives aren't the same way.

Yeah, I prefer black too.
Actually, I would prefer a dark green, but that's harder to find.
Red, I left my computer on last night. Of course, that meant that the mouse had that light on all night. Will it hurt the mouse if that light is on for a long time?

No, mine has always been on for long, pretty much 24/7. I used to worry about that too, but it's actually not bad for the light. I think it's a LED or some other special light which does not burn out like lightbulbs do.

Oh, that's comforting.
Thanks.

I'm doing fine thanks for asking. How about you?
We're getting lousy weather again.

I am doing fine.
Lousy weather? What kind of weather? Cold? Wet?
Sand storms?
It's a bit hot here, but it isn't that bad.

Hey, the sun just came out now.
Now I'm going to go do my home work, see you later

It's getting a little hard, but I'm still getting most of the questions right when I do my work. I can't wait to do the test tomorow and then I cant wait to get the results for both the test and the assignment I did july 4th.
If I do well, it will be a good start. If I do bad, I will be in the same situation as when I failed. I'd always think that I did good but I would not!

Hello, not good today. My face looks like I've been in a boxing match. The swelling won't go away...now it's a doctor's visit I'm trying to set up.
Now they have to do the insurance verification, blah, blah, blah!
I have a wedding to attend Friday...can't go looking like this! I'm really upset about it all!

That's terrible!
I wish you luck and hope the swelling goes away before Friday.
What do you think is causing the swelling?

I was told years ago that it is a reaction from being upset about something. It doesn't seem consistant with that. I don't know at this point.
Maybe I'm sick in the head and don't know it!
