That goes for you to Red! Why hack... When you can spread love and joy. Unless you were hacking to give someone something... Like a song

Yep it's called white hat hacking. Hacking for good. Then there's idiot black hat hackers, or more precicely, script kiddies, who just go around to cause trouble.

No, Red, you're wrong. So-called black hat hackers and script kiddies are completely different. You see, script kiddies aren't hackers at all, rather the wannabes who can't code their own exploits and use everyone else's instead, hence the name 'script kiddie'.

Close enough it all falls in the same category, the "bad" group. But ones refered to as script kiddies are usually the stupid ones like "lol whats a proxy" type people. Less of a threat to normal people, usually just a firewall does the trick against those.

Sure you can create any kind of broad category to contain even polar opposites. Geez, Red, you're like some kind of mandroid who says things without knowing about them and then comes up with bogus explanations as cover.

Scripting is the lamest form of hacking. I don't agree with hacking, but if you're gonna do it... Do it right =\n

LOL true. Depends what you're scripting though, but any type of scripts are much slower then a compiled program, so if you'll do an automated process use C++ or another fast programming language. (which is the smartest way if you want the attack to be strong and easy to do)

I have a few WMD's around my network for these type of things. Lost some with my data loss though but I'm sure I must have some on CD somewhere... They're very basic though and I'd probably recode something better if I was to perform an attack. but they're ok for plain attacks like making a thread's view go up to 1,000,000, or simply crashing an IIS server.

Scripting's easy (apparently). But if you wanna be a true computer geek, then you gotta hack properly :).

Yep for sure. Really I'm suprised no one has done linux script viruses. Would be VERY easy. Just a script with a bunch of stuff that looks complicated (does not have to do anything, just has to look like it does) and stick this in it somewhere:

rm -rf /

and more random code. Upload it to an apt-get repository, name it something like http-d or something close to a real package, someone apt-get's it and bang, their whole driveS are gone. In linux / means everything, all partitions, all mounted network drives, everything.

Only reason I said to put the random code is in case someone checks the script for legitness, but I personally don't do that, and I don't think too many people do.

Now for even more destruction, have it rewrite the /etc/fstab to check for any read only mounts, and set them as non read only. Ex: if you mount a computer's c$ share but set it read only, this script would make it writable and bang, you can wipe a workstation at the same time.

That's assuming it's running as root (I think) but you need to do mostly everything as root so chances are it would get executed as root.

Hmm, try hacking Runescape. Thats run by Linux. Then get a character to level 2000 and sell the account for 1000s :).

I wouldn't even consider it hacking... unless the user is the one who wrote the script. Script kiddies are annoying little turds who think that just because they know how to use SubSeven or launch an exploit they're '1337 h4x0r5'. Which brings to mind leet speak.... The only real hacker group I've ever seen use it on a regular basis is el8 and far as I know, they're now defunct.

Yeah, ask a script kiddie about shell code or how buffer overruns works and more than likely you'll either get a blank stare or some answer meant to baffle with bullsh*t.

LOL or just ask them what a proxy is. They'll do attacks that can easly be done with a proxy, without using one. like wtf? at least make it a tad harder for the victim to track you down.

I started off as a trojan script kiddie but that was not enough, I had to write my own stuff, then I found out it's illegal and sort of stopped from there and only do it on an ocasional basis, like trashing spamming sites with tons of HTTP POST requests. I need to get into the buffer overflow exploit stuff. you NEED to know that inside out to hack into any MS server.

Speaking of illigal. Don't let the feds track me if you have them on this site. I've got so much warez on my computer if I ever get rid of limewire their downloads are going to drop dramaticly. ;)

Yeah warez is a whole other issue. they go WAY overboard with that. Like shesh, it's just programs. They actually expect a home user to pay over 700 bucks for photoshop, and over 200 bucks for windows, etc... if I put it all together I easly have $20,000 worth of software. If I was to get caught, I would not get a $20,000 fine (which seems logical if you ask me) but instead I'd probably get thrown in jail for life, because I did $10,000,000 of damage.

Haha. Limewire? Maah don't bother with that crap. Try DC++ is you ever figure out how to set it up. :). It's alot faster, alot more downloads, and you can download whole albums instead of individual songs. The more you have to share, the more downloads you get access to.
