Chill out for a sec. Is it really that big a deal? Anyway no one guarantees your right to freedom of speech on a privately owned forum. Personally the crap that comes out when people try to bypass the filters in more offensive to my "delicate sensibilities" than the words they are trying to say. It just looks childish, not to mention it's disrespectful as it right there in the rules plain as day and couldn't be simpler. I mean give me a flicking break, like anyone here doesn't know what you are trying to say when the filters kick in. Hell I've rarely even seen it enforced except in cases like GG's where he takes it way too far and is just crying out for attention.

I don't know what's the big issue with censorship. Censorship has been abuse allot (ex: ww2 letters being sent out) but in this case it's for good. Cuss words are not required to transmit communication, and given this is a family forum where any ages are welcome, cuss words stay out.

They do it on some TV programs too, and it's not like everyone complains that they can't understand the talk show's subject because of missing words.

Honestly, I don't care for the censors (it irritates me when I type THE F WORD and it comes out as fudge, rofl) but hey; it was in the fudging rules all along, so I can't complain.

Being able to follow rules is a part of being a respectable adult. If you can't respect the wishes of the owner, go somewhere else. You can curse all you want in your own home, no one is inhibiting your freedoms. If it's a problem, you shouldn't have signed up. The rules were the same when you joined, and by joining you agreed to follow these rules. Grow up, excessive cursing tends to indicates a lack of vocabulary.

Here is an idea for you....Go build your own forum and run it the way you want. The AF is not about to change because your having a poor me moment. Respect the members here or leave or better yet respect the owner or he can make you leave.

I guess you could "build" it from scratch but takes much longer. I'm working on a forum script myself - still have lot to do. Finally I'm getting stuff done though, I was slacking for like 10 months.

I just don’t personally agree with censoring swear words. I don’t see what is the harm in seeing them or using them. You have to consider if censoring words really solves problems. If someone says you’re a flippin idiot, the censors may replace certain words, but they don’t hide the message that the user is trying to convey with these words. Rather than just trying to hide problems under the carpet, why not just deal with them out in the open. I think the free expression is better at solving problems than censorship.

I discovered something interesting about your censor. The only word that you censor is fudge. You don’t censor other offensive words such as nigger, kike, spic, fag, damn, bitch, and bastard. So your censor sucks.

Rule: Do not use offensive language or post any material that would be deemed offensive such as porno, animal cruelty, swearing etc. Trying to bypass the filters is forbidden.

I know about that rule, but I thought it was only referring to using some kind of technology to allow curse words to go through the censors. Technically I'm not breaking the rules if I say fu-uck, because fu-uck is not even pronounced the same way as the word that it implies. If I doubled any of the other letters it would be wrong because the word would still be pronounced the same way.

They aren’t necessary for normal communication, but in a fight they are necessary. How am I going to be able to fight with someone without using a couple of swear words?

I already have a forum where I can freely express myself, but even over there I only use curse words when I really have to. Im sure you will find me to be a respectable person once you get to know me a little better.

Indeed. "Go Fudge yourself, you flipping motherboard" doesn't exactly have the same oomph when you're trying to put forth a powerful image.

I'm all for using plenty of profane language in the right circumstances. They can be indispensable when you are trying to create a certain mood or project a certain image. That and I just love the way the f word sounds when you say it, it's like a quick jab to the in the stomach the way it pops.

That would be called black hat hacking since it would involve modifying server side processes (ex: run truncate query on filters table), and not only would the user be banned, but depending on the circumstance have his ISP contacted.

Bypassing the filter is doing on purpose to misspell a word so it apears. Like saying Fuc|<

The filter is not meant to be perfect, and not every single word is covered, because people should be smart enough to not swear anyway.
