People keep complaining that registrations are turned off, but has anyone even TRIED to make a new account?

Probably at the IP limit, I just tried and it works fine, and the fact that I'm admin has nothing to do because I'm not authenticated while creating an account.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous how everyone is berating the 1)owner 2)Lead coder 3) Lead designer AND the one who pays all the bills.

Bunch of ingrateful people.

Squirrel im new but I say hey if you want to give runuo a RUN for their money, and think you can develop from scratch a product that will kick the crap out of theirs I say DO IT! Even if it takes 2 years! It will be so much better getting past all of the old limitations of the game.

I see the vision you are laying out, and dont let anyone get you down just keep on keeping on, and put out something that will kick runuo's ass so bad that they people bitching right now will come back screaming to join.

It really sounds like you have your .02cents together for a free shard i am throughly impressed with how much has actually been done by you, and I say hell with all the naggers GO FOR THE GOLD!!!!!!

Just my .02....also it seems like it is always the computer illiterates who expect computers to work NOW! To bad that is just not how it works.

Be unique or be the mediocre....i isay when you say its ready its ready dont get pushed around by some dopes who are bitching about not being able to play a game. Even if you lose your whole community think of how this new system is going to draw players! Yep....I think your heading the right directions the next age of free shards.

Thanks for the comment, it's nice to see someone who sees my side of things.

At this point I'm actually taking a break while I work on another project unrelated to the shard, but once I get back I'll decide what to do. Every way we turn, it seems we need to redesign a RunUO system in order to implement something new so it makes me wonder if it's worth continuing on, or if it would be more efficient to go from scratch. All the other shards that have ML and SA are using cookie cutter scripts with lot of hard coded stuff that is very hard to maintain. When something goes wrong (oh and it does) it's a disaster. Also TBH lot of them are not even all that accurate either. Lot of these shards also don't last long enough to see the long term negative effects of bad coding. AoV is not a shard that will go away, like lot of the others do.

I know how to code in C++, Java, Vb, and some python so if you need any help just get ahold of me. I have a degree in comp. sci. Have strong understanding of program layout, logic, and planning. Been through the whole sql/mysql stuff and database normalization blah blah blah. So whatever you need im here.

Reframing what I said above I think you are absolutely right. The problem is that the other shards are ran by script kiddies who are not professional nor are they real hackers (in the programming sense). Don't get me wrong alot of them know their stuff scripting wise and are probably the best at what they do, but i agree when you are constantly being hit by setback in code due to incompatibilities it is best just to scrap and re-write. Most people don't see the thousands of lines of code that could be examined from just one error! Not to mention the possibilities for logic mistakes in code someone else has written that now has to be figured out...ooo no its not a syntax error you now have to get into the head of the idiot who wrote it. Now there are good shards who manage this well, but at some point you have to ask yourself if they would of taken all that time making things "work" or pushing the square into the triangle mold could it equal the time of a complete re-write?

Time = $$
Therefore IRL downtime, fixing BIG bugs, forcing new code into old code, etc..... the extra time it takes for updates...it goes on forever all costs somebody...

The players in lost items, dealing with bugs, inaccuracies in game code and not being able to play a non laggy enjoyable game, the people who maintain the game beacuse it becomes 110% their life, and all the GM's who instead of creating events helping noobs, or making the world a more interesting place...

ARE STUCK FIXING the foundation.

Well idk but it makes sense to me....hopefully others will see why, and understand why they need to just be happy with other shards for the time being.

Furthermore....

I am also wondering a rough estimate of how many people play this game? 200? 500? 1000?

It would be interesting to know - again - I'd to put the time into developing an account if I was 1 of 100 people playing the game.

I really do like the concept of your game that's why I am interested - me and my buddy.

The shard is up and running and will not be shut down anytime soon. The shard is currently in a transitional phase, so a lot of things are getting changed in the background such as notoriety, saving, property handling etc etc.

The actual live server is not being updated at the moment, due to new core changes, so all the work is being done in the background. The devs are currently working on a new sql storage system as well as toning mobiles, items and skills to meet OSI accuracy.

Details on what the revamp entails can be found at this link:

Thanks!

I have been patiently refreshing this website every 15 mins or so waiting for an answer, while I am at work.

I got 3 or 4 friends that want to join - just curious now on how many people actually play.... any ideas?

There are numerous players registered but not very many active players anymore, due to a lack of updates as of current. When you log on to the shard, you will be able to see how many players are currently online (appears on the bottom left hand corner of the screen)

I can't say for certain as I have not personally checked the numbers recently and also can't check them from my current location. What I can tell you is the population is low.

Last I checked there was only 2, but I've also logged at times where there was 10+.

Just be confident that there is some work going on in the background so at some point there will be a huge update. The SQL system is taking longer then expected so I've been debating on putting it asside for now then working on it again later. We just want to get th content and systems going at a faster rate. The original projected date was 2010, and we still have all of 2010 ahead of us so there's still a decent chance we meet that deadline. But it's not set in stone. Rather take longer and do it right, then to hack a bunch of 3rd party scripts together and not know how reliable they are.

We've been throwing lot of exciting ideas as well for post revamp custom additions such as new events and what not.

I appreciate the responses.

Unfortunately, that's just not much action. : (

I like the ideas going on around here and I will check back in the future. I just book marked this site.

Take care and good luck.
