Well, that's your choice and really nothing we can do about that one. The revision of the shard has been planned for several months and we're already far enough into it that it's starting to piece together nicely.
Instead of feeling shafted, I would look at what the revamp means in general: A better shard with stronger security and up time that will run more efficiently and be organized and complete in terms of content. That in itself is a large gift that staff of Age of Valor is giving to its veterans, and its new players.

+1
And speaking of uptime, name any other shard that has actually been up for months without any downtime, not counting server wars which is scheduled, has a warning, and is only 5 minutes. That may even change to once a week.

Anyone who cries and quits over pixel-crack is not a true vet in my opinion.

I didn't hear any crying. I'm just sick of EVERY server I join changing or going under. None are stable. So, after almost 12 years, I'm done with UO. Fair enough?

If you want stagnant UO, go play pre-aos. AoS is a constantly changing and evolving game, if that isn't what you want, I'm not sure why you played AoS in the first place.
Yes, major changes are going to happen to the server. However, these changes are going to make the server much better for vets and new players alike. The fact is that you dropped your house and quit even before seeing the changes, without giving them a chance.
Red and Death (and now Onkyage) are putting in serious time, effort, and money into the server, and if you think that this huge update is going to ruin the server, I think you are mistaken.

Nobody's crying and everyone is entitled to their own opinions on what they like in terms of UO. However, change is inevitable to every server, including official OSI ones.
Things have to change to keep player interest and to make fixes as your first draft is rarely your last. If OSI didn't make changes, they would be hearing about them for years to come, and if they stopped listening, then players would have gotten bored of the same thing and left.
Although it's possible to run a server with very little changes, the interest it sparks doesn't apply to the mass amount of people. In order to survive, you must innovate and improve. This is a main concept for any business.

Yep agreed. This is why duhmise sucks the dick, it stays the same and they keep promising great changes that never come into fruition. The gms/runuo admins don't give a shit about demise.
On valor you have dedicated staff that actually care about where their shard is heading and the players that play here. You can't please everybody but the revamp sounds like it's going to be pretty damn close to modern OSI.
This just makes me remember when AOS first came out and everybody was bitching and rage quitting because of it and now people can't play without AOS, you try pvping with no fcfcr.. it's pretty frustrating.

The slowness of it made it far more strategitc and less adrenalin induced muscle reaction though. I still have a t2a shard or two I play occasionally and its refreshing sometimes to go rape some newbs with a GM made hally and kilt on. Its nice to have shards like that around when you feel nostalgic.
That said you do need innovate and evolve to keep more players around. Shards like that only have a few people on at any given time and anymore they are mostly just about pvp. In order to keep more than that around your server you need to be constantly changing.

It takes a bit to create these changes, I think most peoples problem lays in that the cronies who were caught using exploits and hacks were banned and then kept coming back and advertising other shards and generally being an annoyance. As a result of that, new accounts are blocked which means no new people, same people to pvp.
No one would be complaining about it taking so long if that had never happened. But it did, and the UO staff are making changes so that it will never happen again in the revamp.

This is true. The server will have a much greater variety of content, and the server will be much more secure itself. Not to mention, Red plans on devoting quite a bit of funds in advertising after the revamp to help build up the player base speedily.

I never said it was going to ruin the server. Are you a fucking journalist or something? Stop putting words in my mouth. I asked if they were going to change a few key things that I loved about the server, things that would make or break the way I want to play. They said they would change them, I said goodbye. I don't need to adapt to the changes, I don't want to adapt to the changes. I'd rather not play. The game has ceased being fun for me. Capice?

when it comes to future bannings.
People will get new IP's and make new accounts and generally fuck around the server and the economy of the server.
If its clear the same person has rejoined the server after being perma banned. What the point in letting them screw around the shard for 6 months before eventually rebanning them for another exploit they are using?
On other shards this is prob. These cheating idiots make newbs leave the shard and they also screw around the shards economy. Pretty much killing the server.

Because like all good coders death and red want their code tested because it is the challenge of beating the exploiters. Maybe the wont admit to it/know it themselves. But most geeks love the challenge of it. Its built in

Stopping the bad guys is very hard, but once we have all the back end systems in tact as well as the content, security will be my #1 priority, and I will do everything possible to crack down on these people for good.
We've thrown around a lot of ideas in the GM forum which would help identify people as individuals, such as mailing a code to a physical address (which would only be done once per address) or validating accounts using a credit card (no charge). Lot of these are not feasible unfortunately due to cost or people's willingness. Not everyone would be willing to submit a CC#.
Hackers are actually the #1 reason the shard is closed to new registrations at this point. The server is constantly being pounded by a stream of hackers trying to create new accounts so they can use exploits such as that 1 hit kill bug or the insurance bug, which is a bug on any RunUO server but is very rare and few people know about it. Until we find that bug or confirm that it is impossible to do, new registrations will remain closed.

Obviously not expecting you to reveal details about the insurance bug but if you did get told details of the bug then wouldnt it be possible to rewrite the insurance code slightly different then trying to recreate the scam on TC2?
What version of runuo are you using? Only thing I can find is something in runuo 35 which fixed it.
Insurance bug fixed; use Item.PayedInsurance instead of PlayerMobile.PayedInsurance
Its probably totaly unrelated but oh well

Way to resurrect a two year old thread......
And many artifacts still have specific mods/intensities that can not be crafted, so they are still worthwhile.
