In the state of Texas a seventeen year old is acted upon as an Adult. If I get in trouble with the law, I will be trial as an Adult. I have the option to move out and start on my own.
So what I am saying is, even though I have the option of being my own boss, I don't because I cannot support myself. Now since I am still living with my parents, they have every right to invade my privacy. However they don't and they trust me, but they have that option. When I turn 18, they still have the option of invading my privacy, because I am still living here. It would be the same if I lived with some old guy down the street, he has the option as well to invade my privacy.
So they have every right to invade your privacy.
I know it sucks, but is the law!

Yeah its like at work, they can monitor your calls, read your emails etc.. You're in someone else's building, so they can do what they want.
Though in some cases not always moral, but not illegal either.

I think he could only do that if he were your legal guardian.

The laws may vary based on where you live, but I think that if you live with someone and do not explicitly try to keep them out of something (eg don't lock a file cabinet), then they have the right to go through it.

Yeah pretty much.
So that said, encrypt your porn, your password, and set various methods of security on your computer. Bios password + windows password.
Most parents would not know how to get past the windows password (set policy to lock your pc after 5 minutes of incactivity), so they'd hit the reset button thinking it will help then they'd hit bios password then not know what to do.
Keep in mind these things will only keep non computer people out. Someone who knows something about PCs can easily bypass that. But encrypted stuff is a tad harder.

If you encrypt stuff correctly, then without the password there is no way of anyone getting in (unless some large government REALLY wanted to get to your data). On the other hand, keyloggers are nearly invisible these days.

Actually it's part of the law, you're a minor. I don't find laws too immoral.
And how about you stop being a condescending fuckhead and back up what you're saying with some crap other than "You're a kid."
You responded to my posts, so I'm guessing you've already forgotten what was in them. I'll let you read them again.

*sigh* i wish my dad was one of those parents that knows how to turn on a computer and press "Microsoft Word" or "Internet Explorer" but nothing else. That would make my life soooo much easier because i could have absolute control of my computer.
However...he isn't...and he has software that is hard to get ahold of if you aren't in the business...

if they dont have a specific reason to take your computer doesnt mean it's immoral. as parents they don't need reasons like you killing yourself to make the decision to take your computer a moral one.

It's not the taking of my computer i have a problem with. They pay for my schooling and the house i live in and my clothes and food and my Xbox Live and the internet and my WoW account and my car and my gas and everything. They have the right to take my computer away, they've paid for a lot more than a computer is worth.
However, going on my computer and seeing my personal files and things is, in my opinion, immoral. I think as a person, i should have some privacy as long as i'm not hurting anybody. Think of it like a diary. If you write in a diary every day, and you've put your life into it and your deepest thoughts and feelings, how would you feel if your parents took it and read it? That's just wrong in my opinion. And my parents DID raise me...so i know it's wrong in theirs as well.

I would just encrypt everything you don't want them to see. Or if they're the typical parents that have no clue about PCs just lock your PC everytime you leave it. They still can't figure out the VCR, no way they'll get past the ctrl+alt+del screen.

Yeah I encrypt a lot of my files so my parents don't try anything. Also make sure you have to type in your password when you go on MSN, that way they don't check your emails. They pulled that little stunt on me one time, ugh, how lame.

Yeah thats another thing don't make stuff auto login.
I actually have everything autologin and I never lock my PC.... do as I say, not as I do.
Then again I don't have parents snooping all my stuff. Heck, their account has domain admin rights LOL.
