Y2K was just another feather in the cap of doomsayers everywhere for fearmongering over false apocalypses. I think after the dust settles, the same will be said of the cult of Global Warming. I don't fear the end of the world.

The Myans predicted the end of the world to be December 23rd, 2012. So i'll be 22. At least i'll have had a year of drinking before the world ends :P But i'll still be a senior in college and so i'll never graduate!!!

eh. These are only bugs in the software, the world will not end. And if for some reason computers did crash on Y2K, and all the computer shut down, then we would have made a patch! :D Easy Fix, lol

Jk

I was genuinely concerned, but I was also eleven.

Haha yeah I wish I would of been into computers back then, but I was young too, we never owned one till maybe late year 2000, 2001.

Later on I had checked the bios of an old 486 computer and even that PC could go over year 2000 fine... what a joke that was.

As for global warming, its a reality, but not only global warming that we have to fear, but pollution itself. Why do you think we get so much more cancer, mutated babies, new diseases etc? We're intoxicating the planet with chemicals and gases.

I think the real end will come before these things put an end to the planet, but if not, those things will cause the planet to die off. We've already extincted thousands of species and we're continuously extincting more. Soon the food chain will just be too unstable and the rest of creatures as well as vegetation will die off.

At any given time, parts of the earth are either warming or cooling. The question is whether or not it is caused by man. I don't know that it is happening, or that even if it is, that it's as horrible a thing as the Cult of Global Warming would have everyone believe. And now, the whole "green" movement, which is debateable in its ultimate effectiveness (i.e. alternative fuels could actually cause more ecodamage via their creation/farming than they compensate for with lower emissions), is being powered by the massive resources of private enterprise AND government grants. It's becoming a creature that, in the interest of selling "green" commodities and placating public hysteria, has an interest counter to truth.

Yeah either way we are polluting it and even the alternatives may cause pollution in other ways. I was even thinking, when recycling plastic for example, that must create a big amount of air pollution.

Some alternatives would work such as solar power, but then we'd have to change our ways. No more driving at night, for one. Society is not willing to make changes to lifestyle to how businesses are run.

I don' think it's just a 'cult of global warming'. Scientists have been looking at global warming for decades, investigating, debating, re-evaluating, and the general consensus is for human caused global warming. Yes, there is a general warming and cooling of the planet in different parts, but the mean temperature for the entire planet is steadily rising.

It's funny, a while back there was a group of 'scientists' that banded together to refute the idea anthropogenic global warming, but the funny things was, most of the 'scientists' were economists.

The reason I refer to the activist movement that promotes anthropogenic global warming (AGW) as established fact (as well as the following catastrophe) as a cult is due to the following reasons:

- It uses fear as a motivator for people to support it; almost instilling a life or death ultimatum that effectively calls for its believers to zealously promote it themselves, disregarding critical thought and self-study into both sides of the belief system. Believe and serve the cause or you or a loved one will suffer sometime in the future.

- Experts in climatology who refute its central claims or orthodoxy (that AGW is fact) are accused of being corporate oil-interest sycophants or otherwise maligned by ad hominem assaults.

The zeal, blind belief, and ruthless fearmongering are why I liken it to a cult. Of course, it could be at least somewhat analogized with any number of other secular belief systems that take on radical approaches to a given issue - Marxism, extreme nationalism, and activist groups akin to PETA, ALF, or ELF....
It's funny, a while back there was a group of 'scientists' that banded together to refute the idea anthropogenic global warming, but the funny things was, most of the 'scientists' were economists.
When was that, and who was in this "group of 'scientists'"?

For info on some notable individuals who refute the claim that AGW is established fact, that the "debate is over", here is a comprehensive article about them and their skepticism:

Climate Change: The Deniers

Here is a debunking of the "science" used in the propaganda film "An Inconvenient Truth", which effectively resulted in Al Gore receiving the Nobel Peace Prize... a travesty:

Al Gore, Global Warming, Inconvenient Truth

Some more info on one of the individuals mentioned in the series of articles:

Yeah, I knew you were going to ask for that group of scientists. But darn it if I can't find the source. Heard it on the SGU podcast awhile back. Of course, if I coudl remember the name of the coalition, that might help :P.

But here's an interesting site for you that goes through a good portion of the arguments of AGW deniers.

I read the top 6 or 7, and while interesting, I noticed that there is even more interesting discussion going on in the comments section (especially in the Sunspots article at the top of the list). Looks to me like the science is still unsettled.

Think the end will be when the batteries in the easy button die. Then times will get real hard, leading to the end of the world.

No the world is supposed ending or near to ending on 1st February 2019...an asteroid named like a 4 digit number is apparently going to hit and destroy a whole continent, also causing major climate change, dust, smoke covering the sun and yeah...
The asteroid was discovered in 1989 and has been circling and coming veryyyy close to Earth in recent years, it will be viewable in the night sky on November 28th or some such date in 2008!

Yeah, anyway..
I thought it was April 13th 2012

I've only been into a bar a few times, and it was more like a club then a bar, it was to play pool with friends, I had a couple pepsis to drink. Crazy how expensive soft drinks are in a bar. no wonder people just settle for getting smashed, its cheaper LOL.

Duuude.. DUDE. My birthday is on February 1st. How much would that suck if the world really did end on that date.

The environment in bars when drunk is so much nicer than home. For one, you don't have to worry about your place smelling like puke as your blowing chunks running for the bathroom. Has anyone else seen someone running at full sprint spread while throwing up?.. Anyone?
