this is way OT but ever tried calling mcafee support? they pronounce it MACafee.
Is that how it's suppost to be? I always figured it was like mcdonalds, given it's mc and not mac. wow, way to turn a forum terrorist related thread into OT. It's like bush talking about his birdie on the 18th hole while talking about the 9/11 attacks.
I'm home now, and I unblocked myself from my own security.
(easy to do from my house) so now I'm going to check out any new developments on the other forum (if it's still up
) and take required screen shots then get into the legal stuff. They finally caught on to my auto block script so we might see some come on more. But I have another plan in mind that is very similar to that auto block script, but it will catch a few more. Problem is, anyone from here might also get caught in the trap, so I may avoid using that security tracker.

Mr. Smith
When you get tired of paying for what you are using, try AVG anti-virus and ZoneAlarm Firewall. Both free and in my opinion, better.

And when you get tired of how crappy AVG is...
Try Avast antivirus.
Best free AV out there, thank you and goodnight.

AVG...crappy?
I've tried avast. Good anti-virus but the update downloads are huge compared to AVG. Sucks for dial-up. Very respectable AV.

I find AVG fine, use it on both machines here. I was actually going to recomend it for 900 PCs at a school board, but it turned out F-secure was better and cheaper. Fsecure is another good product if you want to pay. But I would go with a free solution for home use.

F-secure. =X
AVG is pretty decent, I just don't think it picks up as much as a few other AV's out there.

Everything I've seen has it equal to or better than Norton. But I don't vist risky sites or open very many attachments. I also changed my security settings in OE(outlook express). You can do that you know. Make OE secure.

It's better than it used to be, but I still think NAV and Avast are better, unless you buy the paid, full version of AVG.
The only thing I don't like about Avast's free version is the lack of script blocking.

I don't use IE so I don't really need any type of script blocking or anything.

Mcafee antivirus or firewall? I personally feel that Mcafee is a virus.
Abit late on the reply here... But i totally agree. I had it for one day and my CPU usage hit the roof!
It took like 5 minutes to open Firefox...

Wow, you must have a slow PC. I had McAfee VirusScan 8.0 running on 4 VMs at the same time on a Dell machine.
win98, win2k and XP and windows server 2000 all at once.

What do you use to test your speed?

Various things. Basically any download, or speed test, I never get above that. I'd have to do some testing now though, have not in a while.

Like most ISP's, they'll just tell me it's my firewall.
I don't know where people get the idea that a firewall will slow down a connection. It may prevent it, or let it through, but it won't slow it down. Unless you got some intense packet level analysis going on, but that should be done by a security appliance anyway.

What type of service is it? DSL or Cable or, God forbid, satellite?

It's DSL, but what they did is went and offered 5mbps instead of 1, without getting a pipeline 5 times as big as the curent one, so if you do the math, it's slow. You can have 10 people caped at 10mbps on a 100mbps link and it goes fine, but if you let those people use 100mbps without making the main link 1000, then you've got problems, and that's basically what they did.

Ah. Sounds like they got a little ahead of themselves as they've tried to remain competitive.
