I sometimes go to the library after work to visit this debate site: http://s9.invisionfree.com/Debatetheissues/index.php?act=idx and it is easier to come here and link over than it is to remember that whole url. I am sooooo lazy.

just typing Debatetheissues brought me directly to the page, which means it is the first hit in google, which means if you went to the google home page and placed

Debatetheissues

in the search bar and hit i'm feeling lucky, it would take you straight there

at least with firefox it did that

The problem with that forum, and debate forums in general, is that many of the same issues come up in topics that don't directly have anything to do with them. I got tired of seeing the same dead horse beaten over and over and over and over again and then finally stopped visiting. For example, how many times must the same people debate the morality of homosexuality in a crapload of threads, making the same darn points over and over again?

- however I did manage to read something that struck a nerve
One of my major considerations in believing in a young earth is that Adam's sin is what brought death into the world, both spiritual death in terms of separation from God and the physical death of our bodies. Death did not happen before sin, so I don't see how there could be millions of years of evolutionaru deaths before man was on earth.
I really don't want to break out the bible and read Genisis agian. however if I'm not mistaken - there are geneologies that trace back to adam, so this will take sometime for my mind to truly comprehend as I believe in dinosaur's, dna, etc etc, which would age the earth far more than the bible would have us believe

I believe there maybe some relief found in one of the gospels and perhaps revelations.

IN the beginning there was the Word, something like that.

You've got a very valid point, especially when just a small number of people are posting regularly.

Congratulations to Scherzo for reaching the position of ninth highest poster over at Debate the Issues. Don't worry, Stasi, you're still at number 10.

Wow. I haven't even posted there for I don't know how long... still number 10? Along with the shortage on topic variety (I don't know if it's any different now), I guess I'm kind of burned out with debating issues. I hate to admit it, but certaing things get me riled up too much and with the vampire sleep schedule I have, I have to be extra careful about when and why I get riled up, lest I get poor sleep before having to go on for a 12 hour shift.

I try to stay away from debating threads. My perception and views are liberal and i get fecked off with small myopic injudicious remarks.
Too many pointless bashings on debating websites have left me exhausted and depressed.

My problem isn't so much the views people have, be they conservative or liberal, its more that a lot of people don't know how to debate very well. If someone opposes my position, I expect them to back up what they say with facts, and this was a source of much frustration on the 'Debate the Issues' forum, primarily with one guy who fancied himself far more witty and intelligent than he really is. Loads of arguments that were either anecdotal or just plain, factually incorrect. Oh, that and communists.... I see too many similarities between bona fide communists and religious cults and have a great difficulty NOT beating around the bush when discussing things with them - eloquence and diplomacy be damned, though it probably shouldn't be.

Whoa didn't realize I went up that fast! Nice trick congradulating me here instead of over there and preventing me from getting another post in :P

back in the day TAF was alot more active in debates, although I didn't really participate either.

Well, I can't deny that there aren't a lot of topics. After all, it only took about 230 posts for Scherzo to hit ninth place.
