What hardware? I know win2k is bad when it comes to scanners and such, but newer ones work fine, but anything older then 2-3 years does not. I tried getting my scanner to work once and it just BSODed on me. It's really the only problem I had with win2k, so the machine downstairs has to dual boot to 98 to be able to use the scanner.

Win 2000 works poorly with lots of things...
IBM Personal Communications (which Montgomery County gov.'t uses for tons of apps) has a known incompatibility with 2000 and is annoying as hell.
Actually, I could go on with a nice sized list of the problems we have with Win 2000...hehe...it's seriously been a problem due to lack of compatibility with things since it came out, in terms of it's use as a desktop OS.

Some of the old games that I had did did not work with Win XP. I had this scanner that I bought which was required Windows 98, so it didn't work with my computer which had 95 installed. Then when I got a new computer with XP installed it didn't work with that either. Go figure.

Same thing with me, had an ol' lexmark scanner, didn't work at all on XP, 2000 or ME. Only 95 and 98.

Did you try compatibility mode?
Right click the shortcut to the game or application. Hit properties. Check out the compatibility tab. (this is with xp)

As far as games and applications go, there's the compatibility mode in XP and 2000 [2000 requires the latest service pack and a registry edit] as well as a compatibility toolkit. I'm not saying these work perfectly in every circumstances, but they do help a lot. Worth a try if you want to get a particular old program running. If anyone needs the appropriate links, just ask.

hmm have you ever tried it with hardware? Perhaps I could get my scanner to work in win2k. I never thought of that.
