You may be surprised to know that most suspects accused of capital murder are held without bail during the course of their trial as well as after the conviction and before the formal sentancing. They don't just let them roam free.Red Squirrel wrote: Same here, I find so many cases drag on like this for nothing. It's rediculous. I mean peterson has so much time to do whatever he wants during this time and get away from it all, like a private jet out of the continent or something... heck he'd have time to build his own and go.
Due process is a bitch. Unfortunately it's the law. Not only are the court system often times very backed up, they've also found that dragging trials out as well as prolonging the trial, conviction, and formal sentancing dates greatly decrease the amount of errors that could possibly occur on the side of the prosecution during these stages, thus greatly decreasing the chance that the conviction will be later over-turned on an appeal based on some technicality or procedural mistake. Generally speaking, prosecutors are given one chance and one chance only to convict someone of a certain crime. If they screw it up in the slightest way, the criminal walks. In America the tables are dramatically tilted in favor of the accused in almost every case. Innocent untill proven guilty.Red Squirrel wrote: If someone's a murderer, then do the sentance right away, end of story, assuming it's common knowledge that he did the murder (ex: cameras, etc). If it's a hard situation then sure take the time to prove it, but once it's proven don't let it drag for nothing.
Well, if we let Saddam go, might as well let the convicted criminals wander around the playground tooshenbaw wrote:You may be surprised to know that most suspects accused of capital murder are held without bail during the course of their trial as well as after the conviction and before the formal sentancing. I think Saddam killed way more Iraqi's than he ever did Americans! I think they trumped us.sintekk wrote:Well, if we let Saddam go, might as well let the convicted criminals wander around the playground tooshenbaw wrote:You may be surprised to know that most suspects accused of capital murder are held without bail during the course of their trial as well as after the conviction and before the formal sentancing.
