It's just a joke because of the whole "french = freedom" thing. But come to think about it, if everyone would just surrender at wars, who would there be to fight?

Yes they did, they also tried to help the Irish in our War of Independance, but guess what? The were massacred before they even got off their ships. And they have never won a war.
