Well, I don't know how many Americans are that ignorant. But when one comedy group after another goes out to 'prove' the ignorance of Americans with basically the same format, cuts, and so on... after so many, it just gets tiring and insulting. We don't know what questions were asked of all people they talked to, only the ones they showed the answer to. We don't know how many people were able to answer their questions that got totally cut out.
In any case, whether it's on the streets of New York City, Berlin, Moscow, Beijing, or Madrid, you're going to have people that can't answer such seemingly elementary questions, and why must they necessarily be able to? It's ignorant, or even arrogant, to assume that from one society to another, the same sorts of information are, or should be, valued equally, either as a set of social educational values, or practical necessity on some level. It'd sure be nice if everyone remembered who Bush listed in his 'Axis of Evil' (which wasn't entirely evil since they've given good, material assistance since 2001). It'd also be nice if everyone knew geography and so on. But treating a person's lack of that knowledge as some negative statement about the society at large is unfair.

I will forgive the country that begins with 'U'
and perhaps how many sides a triangle has
BUT
to ask the question, 'what county should be invaded next'
and have nobody questioning weather there should be another invasion is ridiculous
what country should be invaded next?
A: France
WHAT!?!?!
propaganda machine is working overtime in the u.s.a.
