I really don't see Vista going over very well...most people don't have the resources to run it.

Red probably won't like it...he hates XP! :roflmao2:

The interface is cool and all, but MS has to realize an OS is made to run programs, not eat resources just to look all pretty. What ever happened to the good ol days of staring at a unix prompt on a 486 that can process more data then a modern machine with the latest Windows?

I've been thinking of going xp since I think win2k is why I can't play any games (not even sim city 4 will run on my machine) but its a big leap, lot of eye candy to remove, and tweaking to do.

Yeah, Sim City 4 is well known for being a resource hog, I don't think it's the os. As for Vista, yikes, what process is taking up all the memory?

As for Vista's main selling point, I couldn't tell ya Tak, I'm not excited for it, but apparently the answer you may be seeking is somewhere in Tom's Hardware's 40 page vista report: in the last page, Tom (or whatever schmuck wrote this article) says that Vista has plenty of smaller optimizations that will make life easier

How about all your drivers--like--did your printer & networking----work??

I like a certain amount of eye candy as for instance when I went from 98 to xp--'

I was just blown away by how cool it looked

I mean -no eye candy==DOS , command prompts :biglaugh:

But not for the load it was putting on your PC :no no no:

I still want DEEP BLUE--something about a 6 foot pc tower turns me on

and I like blue. :awesome:

I did not test any external stuff like printers since this is not a production machine, video was 16 colors to start off, but when I installed VMware tools (drivers for virtual devices such as video) it worked flawlessly.

But yeah for idle cpu load to stay at 0 like it does in windows 2000 (not sure about xp) it would probably require an IBM mainframe.

 To be honest I did not notice how responsive the host system was when I did it. But I can guarantee it made VMware use a good portion of the cpu.
