Yeah, there is a radio station here with the same number as mine growing up, minus the area code of course.

Isn’t that per litre? We base our prices on the gallon (approx. 3.7854 litres) usually. With help from a calculator and the Bank of Canada (using the nominal rate), you should pay something very close to US$2.81 for a gallon of gas.
I reserve the right to mess up on my calculations at any time.

hmm your calculations are not to be questioned but you know those Canadian cars have small gas tanks so it's possibly true for a liter tank.

Yeah I forgot you guys measure in gallons. So yeah we're paying about the same.
(89*3.7854*0.8)/100 = $3.37/galon So yeah we get it just as bad as the US.
Our gas tanks are small because we don't go around with gas guzzling SUVs running over chickens.

Your gas tanks are smaller because you travel, on average, much less distance to work or do errands, etc. One reason it because America has an expansive innerconnected highway system, making travel over longer distances much easier(for the economy too, think shipping). It's simply ingrained in our society that these longer distances are normal. Of course the auto industry isn't helping much either. But the real reason is that, based on studies, Americans drive longer distances on average. There is so much more with how western countries had different opportunites that Europe & co, and how our population centers haven't had time to expand like those older societies in Europe, that makes a big difference on how the people travel... but it's long, and probably boring to most, so I'll stop.
And the U.S. is probably the only nation to measure gas in gallons, everywhere I've heard of and have been to did the litre.

Down with gallons! Besides, the switch to litres may make some people think they are getting cheaper gas.

True, here we don't travel that much. In the states distance is probably not even the main issue, it's time the car is running. I know in Toronto it can take an hour to go around a building because of traffic jams so I assume it's the same in big parts of the states.
And yeah you guys should switch to litres.
At least switch to semi-metric like us.
We tend to mix both together.
"As I was driving at 60km/h I noticed about 50 feet away a bear that must of been 4 metres tall"
or
"I need 18 litres of paint for this, go buy me 5 galons at the store"

What the states main problem is we are buying it from other places. We have lots of oil here in the states so why not pump it. I'll tell you why we don't.. Its because we have one to many TREE HUGGER'S not allowing us normal people to well our own oil. Sad when you come to think of it.

lol well wether it's local or from somewhere else it will make pollution anyway.
But seriously we should be running on something less polluant and more efficient by now. The problem is the oil industry patending every possible way. Someone needs to come up with something, patend it before the oil industry does, then make sure in 20 years from now it will be fully used and impossible for the oil industry to patend it when it expires.
I still think electricity is the way to go, a good source of portable electricity just needs to be found.

That's only partially true, we've been saving that stuff for a long time, so that when we run everyone elses out, we'll have the only major reserve, and the money as well. It's smart, but crappy at the same time. It we needed the oil, we would drill in america (we do in the gulf) regardless of the 'tree huggers'. Face it though, we need a different type of energy, oil has it's limits, and they are approaching.

I should tell you that we do not like the title “tree hugger” since tree hugging is an inhumane activity that can endanger insects or other animals living on the tree surface. Call us “environmental activists” or “communists” instead, s’il te plaît.

Actually I'm somewhat a tree hugger. I just don't go to PETA's extreme when it comes to animal/environement ethics.

I just finished watching the day after tomorow. I seen it at the movies but we rented it since my dad never saw it. Man it's an awsome movie. Only thing that's fake is the fact that it all happends in weeks. But the theory is right, and in fact it's hapening right now. Where do you think all these suddent diseases come from, such as the flu, and the fact that it started in Canada and moved in the states.
