Hey Wren you know what's weird? I got a call today from a company, and they were having the same problem you were having, that some sites did not work, and I tried them as she called, and they worked fine. Sites like yahoo, msn etc...
Thought I'd share since it's kind of strange!

What is even more strange is that I haven't seen anything that explains why. I don't see any articles on it.
I am curious....

It might be happening more than we know...some might think it's the site's server. It was strange to me that I couldn't get anywhere on the net but 1 forum and that 1 forum is not always the same one.

I think someone is hacking into DNS servers and changing the IPs... and not getting caught. I'm sure they don't check the access logs line by line. There are 7 root DNS servers for the entire internet, just imagine the size of those logs!

That sounds reasonable.
If I can't get to something with a domain name, I should be able to with an IP address, right?

Yeah this time it was the server, it was happening to me too.
It always happends when I'm doing something important too! Enoying! Took me about 10 tries before I could log on the ftp server. I was adding some more features to our advanced security system. I have some more plans for later, but for now it's strong enough.
Php is fun...

Not to worry, it's just a very tall glass. We all know about it and can get around, but those who can't will get splatered with a nice popup saying so, with the word ISP in it as well.

That gave me an idea.
I should program a mod to send each other messages, it would be kind of like PMs but it would be IP based, so we could even send them to guests, and guests can send them to other guests etc...
That would be kind of cool.

Actually, here's a little snap shot of how the manager looks like. I cleared off all the blocked IPs I had, they did not connect since the first offence, so chances are another isp customer is using them.
fun fun fun!

If someone is on dial-up, how will you know who it is?

ISPs tend to give in the same range. For example, a specific range I've been watching is 217.158.132.* and 217.158.145.* where the * can be any number from 0 to 255.
Both these IP blocks are provided by the isp Claranet and belong to a specific dial-up user we all know.
