Those seem cool, though I've heard they're actually not that accurate as they are not true RMS. Not sure if it's true or not though.
Would be interesting to plug in my servers into it to see how much power they use all day.

The package says 0.2% accuracy, but I did a search and found people claiming otherwise. Now I have doubts.

I suppose the real question is how accurate do you need it. IN all honesty all you're probably going to use it for is to gage how much power your devices use in relation to each other. Will it tell you if your PC uses more power than your tv? Sure, just don't expect to write a scientific paper about it.

A fun way to test power consumption is with an amp meter, some crocodile clips, and paper clips. You can use your imagination what to do.
Just don't touch anything...

Apparently Ubuntu doesn’t like when you do a BIOS update while it’s in hibernation. It wouldn’t wake up, so I had to restart.
Speaking of Ubuntu, the 9.04 Release Candidate will be released today. I can’t wait to seed the torrents! (I won’t be upgrading yet though.)

Rebooting a linux machine is so sad to do.
My online server is sitting at 364 days as of now. In 2 hours it will hit 1 year.
Though, if a workstation could hit that high of uptime, especially a laptop, I'd be quite impressed.

My server has been on for 172 days, but I restarted Apache about a month ago for a security update. (You can get the uptime for specific processes by doing
ps -eaf or
ls -ld /proc/[insert PID here] .) Of course, none of this necessarily indicates high availability.
Charlie was on for around 40 days, counting suspend and hibernate, although it’d be much higher if I’d stop doing stupid stuff like removing the battery or needlessly updating the BIOS. The great thing is that most of my applications were up for those 40 days too, not just the kernel. (Epiphany is a notable exception, unfortunately.)

my machine has only been up for a little over a week. Mind you I was installing patches last Sunday, so it goes on windows.

I hit 1 year uptime a few days ago, then yesterday I had to reboot.
Oh well at least I hit my goal. It ran out of swap and locked up.

That’s odd. I thought the
OOM Killer was supposed to kick in and kill the process that’s probably responsible.

Hmm interesting, I was actually thinking about writing an app that checks top and does this, but if it already exists... just need to figure how to set it up.

At least it's still here. The forum I have in my sig disappeared from the internet one day. The admin had warned us he wanted to stop hosting it, but I didn't think it would just disappear.
