Try -38
Only -27 now mind you but was around -38 in the morning. This is brutal lol. Car stalled a few minutes after I started it, killed the battery. :/

Well, I made it through the first round of layoffs, though being a contractor, I'm not really locked to a "round". Between this office and the one down the road, we lost 230 people, darn near a quarter of the "1000 company-wide" they were projecting. Fun, fun, fun. Especially seeing as we are one of the biggest employers in the area. HQ lost 400, and another 380 were spread over the other offices, 200 of those overseas.

Scary. The company I work fire is laying off 500 managers. It's actualy good they're going after the managers this time. While some managers are an important part of a company and do lot of work and have important roles, there are a lot that basically sit there and do nothing all day. They just have some fancy title that really means nothing, like:
Co Executive Marketing Management Team Executive
But this job has nothing to do with Marketting. That's what the guy who does 1/4 of that pay does, and his title is
Marketing Manager.
I just made those up, but it's to give an idea how it really is like in big companies. Lot of redundant managers.
That said, I had this ticket from one manager who was a real jerk with me. While he had to call another help desk to get it done he did not care and wanted us to do it anyway. The ticket was just collecting dust in our queue, well he got laid off so I closed the ticket.
If you leave a problem long enough, it goes away.

I am curious, is MS Vista actually decent with more than 1 GB of ram, or is just a slightly faster still bloated ugly POS eye candy then? Or are they just trying to push people to Ubuntu and other better options?
Using my sister-in-law's laptop running it to hopefully recover my pictures and thoroughly unimpressed so far, especially for 1 GB of RAM.

For vista to be as usable as XP I'd say at least 4 gigs of ram. I have 3.5 gigs (WAY more then I need) on my XP machine and it runs great. I have no reason to upgrade to vista. I'd also need to upgrade my whole PC. I only have a dual core so I would not really go far with Vista + all the other apps I use.
Lot of people say "oh it runs fine with 1Gig and 1GHz cpu" yeah, but that's without any apps running. The whole point of an OS is to run apps. The OS itself should have a low foot print and leave resources to programs.

this laptop is a 1.6 GHZ I believe and it ages to load windows, and there is not much on there to slow it down. My biggest dislike of it is the look, feel, and general file management - seems to make things more difficult and time consuming.
If I had a newer system with 2-3 GB or more of RAM, I would expect it to scream through tasks, not just be useable or decent.

My RAM usage actually went down when I upgraded to Intrepid.
(Vista is rather nice looking, and the effects are neat.)

LMAO shutdown an entire state over 5 inches? Wow, that's sad. I drive in that all the time, well not true, it's been in the -20's and colder so it has not snowed in a while. Plows usually don't bother passing if there's only 5 inches.

Lingering snow, slush and ice made for slippery conditions on roads Wednesday, especially in rural areas. In response, more than 800 schools and businesses closed their doors or opened late.

On Tuesday, troopers responded to 717 weather-related wrecks in Triangle counties. Raleigh police worked more than 100 wrecks – double the department's daily average, spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

I don’t have enough money! (Then again, most of those people don’t either.)

Yeah I can't wait for this crappy weather to leave and bring on the spring. Fishing season! Not sure how I could fish more this season than last but I'm gonna try.

As much as I hate the cold, I'm not missing the rain, so I don't mind if this weather sticks around for a while.
Now if I had a good summer to look forward to, fine, but in past few years our summers have sucked royally.
