What’s worse than having a leak in your roof? Having a leak in your roof with your laptop right under it! It’s not turning on. :(

Money is in short supply these days. Repairing the computer is out of the question, much less replacing it. Sharing my parents’ computer won’t be so bad, especially since they run Ubuntu now.

Thankfully I have backups from my external hard drive. Charlie’s is probably still okay, but I wouldn’t have any way to read it.

I love that I can just copy my home folder from one computer to another and still have all my settings. It’s like sitting in front of Charlie, only slower and less comfortable.

yeah I bet linux makes it nice for that, as opposed to windows.

Ever try a windows profile migration. royal PAIN. It's hit or miss.

Temp increased here, too. The snow is finally melting away and I don't have to get on the roads with a clenched you-know-what.

Ha, I haven't even had any snow here. At least, not since I've been here.

And I am quite content with that.

Imagine living in Australia, where Christmas comes during summer.

Our Santa Claus at Walmart was a woman. Little kids were telling her that she can’t be Santa, because she’s a girl, and we accidentally referred to her as “she” on the PA.

Darn liberals destroying traditional family values with their feminist Santas.

Stuck at work on New Years Eve. And I get out of work just in time to miss everything. Not that big a deal to me, just slightly more bored than usual.

lol think I'll be bored this new years eve. I don't really know why but some years my parents just get lazy and don't do anything. Will basically be like a regular day for me. My company put me on the early shift so I can be out early but tbh that was not even needed. I could have finished at 9 anyway considering it's 7 and there's absolutely nothing going on other then the usual.

My dad watching TV, and my mom going ape crazy cleaning the house.

They'll be in bed by 10 probably LOL.

Yeah, I don't really do much for new year's anymore either. I got a few movies in to pass the time though. Tomorrow's the real kicker though, the real company holiday. This place will more than likely be completely dead, from the second I walk in.

kinda makes you wonder why they can't just shut down the whole place instead of having someone work.

It's like where I work, there's actually 24 hour tech support, even on Christmas. Thankfully it's outsourced but still. Close the damn place. If someone is actually working on Christmas and having computer trouble, too Fing bad, go see your family or something! lol. Computers can wait.

We're 24/7 too, but it kinda makes sense. Our stuff is accessed all over the world. Not everyone celebrates the same holidays. Still frickin everyone celebrates New Years, and yet I'm stuck here...

I get paid and an extra 8 hours this week for the holiday though, so it's like getting paid twice for working the same day. No double time and a half though.

Guess OT is always nice.

I just find it bad how this world has turned so retardedly commercial that a company can't even totally shut down for a few days.

Personally if I ran a business I would arange to give nearly everyone Christmas and new years week off. Some people would maybe be on call and end up working anyway but for general business, it would be closed. If customers would complain about no support or w/e, I'd tell them to go enjoy Christmas season and family which is more important.

Mind you it really depends on the business too. Retail pretty much has to always work, Medical related businesses as well, etc.

Ugh. I can't wait for this week - heck month - to be over. With the lay-offs starting in earnest this week, things are kinda tense with work. I'm thinking -hoping - that being a contractor our cuts have already been made as they are getting to the real employees now. But that being said, contractors are a lot easier to let go, so just because they hit us first, doesn't mean they are coming back...

Sucks man. I've been through two rounds of layoffs/workforce-reductions in the last year and a half at Micron Technologies - it's definitely a stressor. Hope everything works out ok for you.

Scary, yeah hopefully you're lucky and are not part of the layoffs.

January seems to always be a hard month, even in school I remember it being tough. Now at work, it just gets retarded busy. Glad I took this week off, but it went WAY too fast.

lol there's this one manager that's called me at the help desk a few time and he's very arrogant and all round dimwit.

They're doing major cut backs and laying off starting with managers, well, looks like he's one of them. He was being all big shot about his new position, well bye bye! His ticket is still open (was a really complex security request that we have no power to do much with) so we can close it once he's officially gone! woot woot!

People who are big shot about their management position need to be thrown out of management. Can't stand people like that. Funny thing is when the info came out nobody even knows who he is. Chances are if a manager is in some high position but nobody knows who he is, he's not really that important.
