Windows XP SP 3 Final is out.

it was listed on april 23rd as being released.

but looks like every one is after it since it wants to take me 350 + hours to download right now. so i'll wait for a day or so.

I'll wait till they fix all the bugs and issues it will introduce, then install it.

Remember the issues SP2 caused at first? lol

no i never got any issues i remember caused by sp2. and i've been using sp3 since beta 1, not any major issues that was caused by it. other then the fact that some older software producers don't have new copys of the msi file and their software cdroms wont set up unless you browse their cdrom find their msi setup file and right click it and make it run in win98 compat mode.
and a few software programs also have not been updated to work with vista. those wont install and run proper unless you put the exe in to compat mode after you install them.

xp sp3 adds a little of the vista code in to the xp system as far as i can tell which is what makes the above condtions happen.

but i am on the last beta for xp sp3. so they might have that fixed in the final versin linked to at majorgeeks.com

I had no issues with sp2 either but a lot of folks did. I recall the hardware mfg. having to scramble to get drivers for their products to run with XP.

Like Red said, it will happen with Vista too.

Maybe I'll wait awhile on SP3 too.

they reposted the update for the xp sp3 final either on monday or tuesday at majorgeeks. this time the link worked it took about 4 hours on this wireless with a download manager and four connections to the server to get it. because it kept stopping every 20 minutes or so. to let the server have a time out. just don't use anymore then 4 connections and don't speed up the priortiy because that m$ server don't like that being done and you won't get it to restart after its time out.

but it came in and it works. it will change some things you have to use to get online. so your firewall will ask if you want them to be allowed again?

I went there to see how fast it was, way slow on DSL so I canceled it. There's a few problems on my system. CPU or video card, or something's corrupted. Windows Update and IE won't even work. I need to format but hate that job.

So with all this going on, I'll wait and see what happens.

well there is away you might get it faster with out the middle man of majorgeeks.

but it might not work.?

go to majorgeeks start the download. copy the name of the file you are downloading it is a big name. then cancel that download. go to microsoft downloads type in the name and search for it on their download servers. it might show up ? if it does it will be a little faster on the direct link to their servers. but it is going to come in slower then one expected any way you connect to the server. it took me forever on my wireless. it said 3 to 6 hours left in the time colume of the download manager i think it took 4 hours total?

dsl would be faster but it might take 3 hours or so on it.

I can't tell weather or not the Major Geeks is a verified download. The early release candidates also timed out.

However, below is a link for an actual MS download of SP3 RTM.

I'm using Internet Download Manager with DSL its going to take about 40 minutes.

Its at 33% with 21 minutes to go with 7 connections.

For the Windows XP users out there … XP SP3 is now available for download from the Microsoft website. Note that this is a direct link to the executable file and contains no information about the download.

Back up FIRST--I tried an earlier 'torrent' version & I had to do a total restore it corrupted my system.

Now I have to find out if I slip stream SP1 & SP3 into an install cd--do I have to include SP2 also?

Good question. MS should offer a combined service pack if they won't be supporting XP . Didn't they do that when the first SP came out, since it was taking so long for the download? I think a lot more people were on dial-up then...I remember a big uproar over it. Too long ago for me to remember.

i don't know where you found that link richardj i had been looking for it for days on the ms servers but found nothing. the link at majorgeeks is good it is the one i got and it links to the ms site to get the file. which is the same one you linked to get,

i just could not find the ms site link for it. so thanks for finding it.
