TORNADO WARNING - TIMMINS

Post by Death »

LOL I knew it was a tornado. It just came so suddenly it was insane. Me and a co-worked said "We better bring the machines in" and as I started up the tractor (Or tried to but it kept stalling), I looked to my right and saw this huge sandstorm coming right towards us at an astounding velocity. We ran into the shed and shut the door so fast after seeing that.

TORNADO WARNING - TIMMINS

You get tornados up there? Or should I say, when was the last time a tornado actually tocuhed down up there. Down here is Central VA we get warnings all the time but I've only heard of a rumor once in my entire life of a tornado actually touching down.

Reminds me of when I lived in Georgia though. Tornados are a real threat down there, not too surprising considering how unpredictable the weather is. One night as I was trying to get to bed a little early the tornado siren went off for like 15min. So we all went downstiars waited it out. When the siren stopped, A voice boomed from the speaker - it was only a tornado watch. Watch = conditions ripe for tornados, warning = tornado has been seen. A while later after everyone had gone back to bed the siren went off again. Think "the boy who cried wolf". Eventually, very sluggishly we went downstairs and waited. This time it had been a warning. We found out the next day a tornado had touched down just south of us in Henry County, taking out a private airfield, and the bleachers of the local speedway. And we almost ignored the siren. Way to go City of Morrow.

Actually I dont think we ever had any recent ones. Only warnings. We did not end up getting it today, but its suppost to be stormy tonight, so you never know. But the winds did knock down power lines and stuff. My house was out of power for a while since a few blocks away a tree fell on a line.

People here dont know how to drive, especially when the traffic lights arn't up. they dont get the 4 way stop rule. So that said, we had fun getting back home from the restaurant since traffic was being rerouted, probably because of an accident. (never seen whatever we were being blocked from but guessing it was an accident)

Lets just say days like this are always exciting. :D

Ya people don't know how to drive here, but I say that what's worse is people don't know how to exit their cars. They exit their cars right into the street when a car's coming and expect it to stop. We almost mowed down some stupid woman because she thought she was invincible, walking thru the road. Since I've been home, I've seen people get out of their car and not look at least 5 different times.

Red, you should head for the basement when you get a tornado warning. The best place we have is the closet under the stairs...house is on a concrete slab.

Manadren, we do have a lot of storms but they are almost always to the north or south of where I am. We live east of Atlanta, in Newton county. It can be storming all around us and we're lucky to get a shower.

Yeah and they say washrooms are good too because of the piping, aperently reinforces walls. But ours is between hot water heater, furnace and electrical panel, so dont know how safe it would be during a tornado.

At work, the server room would probably be safest place since it's a small area and all brick, and I'd say it's about in the middle of the building. And it's AC cooled, so you can panic with no sweat!

At the time I was living in Morrow, which is Clayton County, just south of Atlanta. We got our fair share of nasty storms there. :)

hahaha yeah that could suck. Those servers are heavy too. :o The AC in there broke today, going in there is like walking in a boat's boiler room. You know how metal is usually cold when you touch it? when when you touch any metal in that room its hot. Not too good to have that heat in a server room lol, but gota keep them running since its production equipment. I should suggest they get a redunant AC system in there, since last year it broke too.
